Evangelism Tools: The Wordless Book

The Wordless Book is an excellent resource for use in witnessing to others, especially children. This book is easy to learn how to use and is very simple to make. All you need to make a wordless book is black, red, white, yellow or gold and green construction paper or poster board and glue. Arrange the paper in the following order: Black, red, white, yellow or gold and green, then simply glue the edges to make a binding. If you prefer you can hole punch the sides and connect them with yarn. Going through each page of the book the … Continue reading

Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People? Part 2

Yesterday we saw how we need to make the most of the freedom we have to further the cause of the gospel, by taking the opportunities we have. As Paul underwent his imprisonment not only the guards came to hear the gospel message but other Christians were encouraged and trusted in God because of the faith they saw in Paul. What’s more, rather than them cowering in fear afraid to speak out, they actually grew in ‘courage to speak the word of God without fear’ Philippians 1:14. Plus, the numbers of believers trusting God was growing. That’s often the way … Continue reading

Gospel Consequences and Tough Love

We have the gospel of life, the world needs to to hear it. It won’t unless we persist in prayer and in sharing the truth with family, friends and neighbors. One of the consequences of living a godly life is persecution. Jesus warned his followers they would face persecution but to be of good cheer because He had overcome the world,John 16:33. Mention of persecution was not a one off. You will find this idea repeated in Matthew 5:10-12, Matthew 10:23, Matthew 24:9, Mark 10:30, and John 15:20 In the current economic crisis people are struggling for something or someone … Continue reading

All About Jesus and Life

Recently at church our minister started off by telling of a Sunday school teacher who decided to try a different approach to open her lesson. She gave some clues and asked the class to guess the answer. Her first clue was, ‘I am grey and furry.’ The class looked at her blankly No-one raised their hand. ‘I have a large black nose.’ Still no answer. Puzzled the teacher scratched kept adding clues. ‘I live in gum trees.’ No child answered. ‘I eat eucalyptus leaves.’ Finally one child tentatively put up her hand and said, ‘I know the answer should be … Continue reading

Cleansed And Commissioned But Contrary.

Contrariness seems to be second nature to some people. They want to do the opposite of what they are told. We see an example of this in Mark 1:40-45.What about you? Does this description fit you? 1. Interestingly the leper didn’t doubt the power of Jesus. He didn’t doubt His ability to heal him. The issue, as far as the leper was concerned, was not whether Jesus could heal him, but would he be willing to? Do we fall into this category of being unwilling to believe Jesus is unwilling to meet our deepest longest and requests? Jesus said in … Continue reading

Is Your Sleep Sweet?

Recently my husband went to our local jail to hold a Bible study with several of the inmates. In the course of the conversation someone asked, “How many of you are able to sleep through the night?” The men each looked at each other and shrugged. Not one of them was able to raise their hand and attest to receiving a good night’s sleep. The reason? Each man had his own burden he was carrying. Whether it was the weight of his crime, thoughts of his family, feelings of loneliness or anger, they had one thing in common other than … Continue reading

The Big Picture in Short Term Missions

Short term missions; trips that span from one week to a few months, sometimes don’t receive the support that I think they deserve in church. Some missions boards hate to support them because they don’t go towards long lasting ministries. From a pragmatic sense, it is true, you will not do a whole lot in a week in terms of your presence in another country or place. Some places hate to have teams and honestly, I can understand why. It tends to be a lot of hype for a week and then the team is going back home leaving the … Continue reading

The Great Commission

The Great Commission is the mandate of God to Christians to spread the Gospel to every person. Jesus spoke the words of the Great Commission to his disciples just before He ascended into heaven. Matthew 28:19-20 may be the best summary of this mandate: “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the ends of the world.” This command, I believe, also applies to … Continue reading

Leading a Child to Christ in 4 Steps

Are you confident that you know how to present the gospel to people? Sharing the love of Jesus and His plan of salvation is a blessing, however, if you feel unprepared you may be reluctant to do so. Here are 4 steps you can use for presenting the gospel to children: 1. Show him his need for a Savior. Tell the child, “God loves you and wants you to come to heaven to live with Him someday.” Read Romans 3:23 and Isaiah 53:6. Ask him, “What will keep you from heaven?” Explain to him what sin is. A definition I … Continue reading
