Why Should You Pray?

Many blessings come from being a Christian. One of the richest and most rewarding blessings is being able to approach our God at any time of day or night in prayer. Not only can we come to God and lay our burdens before Him, but the Bible says that He wants us to pray to Him.

I Peter 5:7 states that we are supposed to "cast" all of our cares on Him because He cares for us. If we have the weight of a difficult child, a turbulent friendship or even a disagreement with our spouse, God wants us to literally "throw" these problems on Him in prayer. He wants us to hand over our sorrows and troubles to Him so that He can bear them for us and replace our doubts with His peace.

Hebrews 4:16 says we are to "come boldly before the throne of grace" so that we can find help in our time of need.

We are God's sons and daughters if we are born again. This relationship gives us the positional authority of approaching God in prayer. John 1:12 says that "as many as received Him (Jesus) to them gave He power to become the sons of God." The word "power" also means "authority". If you believe on Jesus you have the authority to be His child. This authority entitles you to approach your heavenly Father at any time with your burdens or your requests.

Jesus said that if we ask any thing in His name, according to His will, He will hear us. This does not mean that we will always get what we want, for prayer is not about what we can get for ourselves. However, spending time in prayer while yielding yourself to the Holy Spirit will eventually change your thoughts and desires to be those which Jesus wants you to have.

Do you sometimes feel as though you are carrying your load of cares all by yourself? It is not God's plan for you to handle your problems alone. He desires and gives you the opportunity to come to Him "boldly". Take advantage of it!
