What Inspires Your Blog Posts?

Blogging is an enjoyable form of freelance writing work. Whether you are lucky enough to have found a blogging job, you have your own blog just for fun, or both, once you start blogging you must continually come up with new content that keeps your readers coming back for more. Sometimes, it is easy. You go about your day and then when it is time to sit down at your computer and write, you recall something that you saw or did that day which just so happens to be excellent fodder for a blog post. You spend the next ten … Continue reading

Brick Heaven

It’s been just over a week since the newest Legoland opened its doors in Winter Haven, Florida, and the theme park is already making headlines. The park boasts dozens of Lego sculptures featuring more than 50 million colorful bricks, including life-sized elephants, a 20-foot statue of Albert Einstein and an exact replica of a 2011 Ford Explorer. In addition, kids from 2 to 12 years old can tour 50 attractions in 10 different theme areas, such as the Imagination Zone, the Land of Adventure and Lego City which sports live shows, interactive adventures and a host of age appropriate thrill … Continue reading

Treasures in Heaven

The lesson in Sunday school this past week really got me thinking about where my heart is, and what I can change in my own personal life. Isn’t that the point of studying the scriptures? To help us see ourselves, and help us improve. So, we were studying in Matthew, Chapter 6, and we were discussing verses 20 and 21, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” The question was posed, “How … Continue reading

A Trip to Deep-Fried Heaven

For deep-fried food fans, sinking their teeth into a Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger is about as close to Heaven, as one can get. Scratch that. Add a couple pieces of chocolate-covered bacon to the Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger… now that’s Heaven on Earth… or a heart attack waiting to happen. If you missed out on trying the one-of-a-kind hamburger, topped with melted cheese and squished in between an extra-large Krispy Kreme glazed donut, at the Wisconsin State Fair earlier this month, then hold onto your arteries because the State Fair of Texas is just around the corner. The annual fried food festival … Continue reading

Heaven Scent Crystals are Better than Candles!

I found something special this summer when I visited the California Mid State Fair! Heaven Scent sells aroma crystals in a variety of scents. They are inexpensive, last a long time, and go where candles cannot. This makes them a much better deal than candles. These aroma crystals are made from salt, that has been infused with blended oils that have a fragrance. This makes them a green product, made from very natural ingredients. I am a person who suffers from severe allergies, especially if I encounter scented products. However, I have managed to find several different kinds of aroma … Continue reading

Some Good People Are Not Going to Heaven

Some good people are not going to go to heaven. That’s what God says. Take a look at John 3:17-18 and you‘ll see that God has laid down the criteria of what it takes to get into heaven and it’s not what many of us expect. And it’s hard. It’s hard to think of people we love who are not going to be there. Not because they’re not generous, kind, loving, thoughtful, committed to their family and spouse, because they are. I was talking to my husband about a guy we know who is all those things. He’s what the … Continue reading

Wagging My Tail Goodbye to the Pets Blog

I’m sitting in my office looking out the window watching the snow melt from the rooftops and bushes as I’m writing this. Last night we got measureable snow, a bit of an oddity in December for us here in Nashville. Whenever we get snow like this now I think about the first winter I was writing for Families.com. We got snow one February and I took Murph outside to play in it, then wrote about it as my blog for the day later. How much inspiration I’ve drawn from my pets over the past two years since I first began … Continue reading

Celebrity Milestones: Hootie Leaves the Blowfish, Aniston the Stalker and Heavenly Wedding

Hootie has been sucked into the country music vortex and now the Blowfish are left to swim alone. Darius Rucker, frontman of the award-winning rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, is leaving his bandmates behind so he can focus on a solo career as a country music star. Rucker made the announcement last week saying that while he and the rest of the band will do four charity concerts each year, they will no longer record new music or tour together. Like pop star Jessica Simpson did last year, Rucker says he wants to try his hand at being a … Continue reading

Month in Review: July 2008 Adoption Blogs, Part One

The first week of July I shared how my daughter asked if she could be president some day and I had to say probably not. Mommy, Can I Be the President Some Day? tells this story and The Natural-Born Citizen Act tells of an attempted remedy for this law. Ensuring Our Children’s Proof of Citizenship, and, A Little Ceremony Could Have Been a Good Thing talks about getting a Certificate of Citizenship, and about my nostalgia for a naturalization ceremony even while I recognize that the automatic citizenship law of 2001 is a good thing. I share yet another profound … Continue reading

Tears in Heaven

Meg, my eight-year-old, is saying some very wise things lately. Last night we came across a baby’s T-shirt that I was saving because Regina’s foster mother had sent it with her. Meg wanted to know what clothes I’d saved from her own days in Korea. I mentioned the snowsuit that covered her pink outfit. This reminded Meg of the story she’s heard us tell of how her foster mother, after a moving prayer in which Meg was transferred into my arms, snatched her back again and covered her more warmly. “You know, Mom,” Meg said now, “I think she was … Continue reading
