Don’t you love how the bible presents us with contrasts? Take the examples in Mark 10:32-52. Here we see two lots of different people with two distinctly different requests. In the first, John and James, after learning about the impending death of Jesus in Jerusalem, reacted perhaps not as we might have expected. Many people want to insist Jesus was a good man or a prophet. This is not what the bible teaches. The bible teaches: Jesus is ‘the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God,’ John 1:1. Or as Colossians says ‘He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation,’ Colossians 1:15. ‘No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side has made him known,’ John 1:18. There are many people and religions out there that recognize Jesus as a good man but don’t believe Him to be the promised Messiah (anointed one). But, either Jesus is who He claimed, or He’s a liar. What honor, if any, does a liar deserve, whether they are good or not? As I begin the third part to the “Who is Jesus?” series, you might be wondering where the Trinitarian or Triune beliefs come from if God is one. 1 John 5:7 says, “For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” In the true definition of Trinity, God is defined as being three persons in one Godhead. There are many ways I see God. I see Him as my Father, my Comforter, my Hope, my Healer… There are so many wonderful attributes about Him. One of the greatest ways I’ve see Him is as my friend. To think God wants to be our friend is so humbling to me.
