Hope – a Gift from God

Today is a day of sadness for America as we commemorate the sixth anniversary of the World Trade Center bombings. However, it is not a day for despair. God wants us to have hope in all our trials, and today is no different. Elder M. Russell Ballard, in his Ensign article “The Hope of Joy Fulfilled,” November 1992 said: “My message to you today, my brothers and sisters, is simply this: the Lord is in control. He knows the end from the beginning. He has given us adequate instruction that, if followed, will see us safely through any crisis. His … Continue reading

Do You Have Time for God?

In Exodus chapters 20-24 God gives Moses and the Israelites His laws for them. He begins with the Ten Commandments and then goes on to give several, more specific guidelines for how He wants His followers to behave towards each other. After God finishes speaking, He says in 14:12, “And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them (the Israelites).” I don’t know about you, but if I was Moses I … Continue reading

Faith Is a Decision

As I read the conference talk this week, one comment that Elder Neal A. Anderson made really stuck with me. He said, “Faith is not only a feeling; it is a decision.” Elder Anderson went on to talk about how you can choose to build up your faith through studying the gospel and making righteous decisions. I believe that faith grows … Continue reading

When Does Satan Attack?

Does it ever seem like just when everything seems to be going great in your life, that’s when Satan attacks you? I had a day like that recently. Things were going wonderfully. I had a good time reading my Bible and praying in the morning. My husband, children and I had a fun morning spending time together as a family. We got to go to church to help with some cleaning and preparing for a special banquet which was taking place in the evening. My husband and I spent time singing together, practicing for doing special music at church. I … Continue reading

Why Doesn’t Everybody Serve Me?

OK, so maybe this is a question that I would never verbalize, but it is definitely a question I have asked in my heart a time or two. For the past few days I have been pretty much house-ridden because one of my children has been sick with the flu. Last night, at the end of day three, I felt myself becoming very frustrated. My husband had been busy all weekend. In fact, I had hardly seen him at all. I started to feel a little put out that I was the one who had been solely responsible for taking … Continue reading
