What About Men’s Reproductive Health Care?

We have been hearing a lot of news about laws, and proposed laws, that are designed to regulate women’s health care. Most of them affect what will, and will not, be covered in a woman’s health insurance plan. What about the reproductive health care of men? Some lawmakers are working on making sure that men are not left out of this type of regulation. There have been a lot of laws and regulations passed that are designed to control the access that women have to specific types of women’s health care. Most of these laws prohibit certain types of care … Continue reading

Time Out for Women

Have you ever had the strong desire to just get an extra spiritual boost outside of your usual personal study and church meetings? Have you been longing for a girls’ weekend getaway? Well, Time Out for Women might just be your answer. A few years ago, a couple of my friends asked me if I was interested in going. This was when I lived in GA, and the closest one was going to be 4 hours away. We all thought it would be a fun chance to leave the kids behind, stay in a hotel, and make the most of … Continue reading

Managing Stress Centers: Time Management in the Home

Yesterday I wrote about the idea of stress centers in your home: those places or times where you step in, take one look, and want to run out screaming. The rest of your house might be just fine, or even somewhat cluttered, but it feels all right. The stress centers? That’s where your clutter and your stress live. I think that the same thing occurs with time. I’ve realized over the last couple of years that there are certain times of the day that I feel stressed. The times will come as no surprise to most parents: they include leaving … Continue reading

Last Minute Homemade Halloween Costumes

This is it. The final countdown to the Halloween is on, and if you don’t already have a costume, then you are going to have to dig deep… creatively. While you can score awesome deals on store-bought costumes right now (yesterday I saw costumes on sale for 75 percent off at a couple big name discount retailers), the downside is that most of the savings are only good on XXL or XS getups, because that’s all that’s left. If you can fit into what is left on the shelves on this Halloween Eve, then you are golden. However, if there’s … Continue reading

The Wise Pseudo-Break

Sometimes it takes me a while to figure myself out. I’ve been doing a lot of reading this summer and for the past week or so I’ve been stuck on a book. It’s translated and it is dense. It uses big words and, while I’m no stranger to big words, this slows down my reading and comprehension… especially when the sentence length approaches the length of a page. So many ideas that it hurts to try to sit and read thirty pages. It is even kind of painful to try and read ten pages. The book is long though and … Continue reading

Frugal Christmas Entertainment

This year, why not spend most of your time preparing for Christmas by taking advantage of all of the free and low cost Christmas entertainment and activities, instead of spending that time shopping (which is not very frugal at all). Here are some of my favorite frugal Christmas entertainment activities. Breakfast with Santa This time of year, there are many opportunities to experience breakfast with Santa. This can be fun because the kids will generally get a longer time talking with Santa than if they visited him for a quick photo at the mall. Breakfast with Santa can be pricey … Continue reading

The Best Investment You Can Make

One of the best investments you can make with regard to food is an upright freezer. It may not be cheap initially but over many years it will save you time and money. The freezer makes it possible to buy in bulk. If a side of beef or lamb or pork, is too much you can by a hind or a forequarter. Or you can arrange with a relative or friends to share win the cost of a side and split it between you. A Destructive Element in Marriage

Today I’m going to talk about what I see as a destructive element in marriage and one that many people fall too easily into. The problem is being a tattle tale. Now I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up I was always taught not to be a tattle tale. ‘Nobody likes a tattle tale,’ my mother said. A wise woman, my mother. In school there was nothing considered worse than being a tattle tale or as kids in Australia call it a ‘dobber.’ Yet it’s something I hear husbands and wives doing all the time to … Continue reading
