Learning to Simplify

Life is more complicated than ever before. Most homes have two incomes and if not are caught in a constant struggle of making ends meet. Kids are involved in sports, music, social activities, art classes and anything else they can be signed up for to ensure they are fit for society. Our homes are filled with computers, laptops, furniture, books, curriculum, magazines, toys, gadgets, and everything new or sentimental we cannot throw away. Our lives are filled with obligations to family, church, friends and finding a way to keep our heads above water. We are all busy and we are … Continue reading

Holy Huddles or Reaching Outwards

Are we in danger of creating holy huddles? It appears we are. In Australia it was revealed in our latest monthly church newsletter that 60% of those who do not attend church have, ‘no close friends involved in a church.’ That is a staggering statistic and one that needs to be changed. In an effort to change this situation and try and connect with these people currently outside the church, the Anglican Synod has started an evangelistic plan called Connect 09. It’s great there is a plan set up to get the Word of God out to more people, and … Continue reading

Resolve to Read Together

My husband often tells the story which occurred while he was a teenager before he obeyed the gospel and became a Christian. He was over at a friend’s home, I suppose just hanging out as teens do, when he and his friend were required to sit in on a family Bible study. This family had set aside a time to read the Bible. That time was not changed just because their son had a friend over. My husband was not a part of the congregation where this family met, yet they still took the time to read together while he … Continue reading

There are many distinct qualities a Christian family should exhibit in order to not only function well, but also to be pleasing to the Lord. Live life in subjection to God and His commandments. A Christian family should always have God as the centerpiece and foundation of their lives. Spend time together. Spending time together as a family allows the family the opportunity to understand each other’s needs. Study together. God’s word is a wonderful and precious gift. What a wonderful way to spend time together … Continue reading

Family Devotions

If your family is as busy as mine, you know that it is difficult to set aside time to do family devotions. It is, however, vital to a Christian family. As parents, it’s our job to teach our children about God and to help them love His word. During devotion time we do these things. For my family, we have done it differently at different times. Our church used to meet on Saturday evening, so we would use Sunday morning to do family worship. My husband learned to strum a few kids’ worship songs on his guitar and we would … Continue reading

Ways to Make Reading the Bible a Family Activity

Think of the time throughout the week each member of your family spends at school or at work or at other activities. How does that compare with the time you spend reading God’s Word, praying to God, and worshiping God? Reading the Bible together as a family can be a great way to show your family the importance of God and His Word. In this blog I have listed several ways to make reading the Bible a family activity. 1. Pick a book of the Bible to read as a family. Sit down and discuss why everyone would like to … Continue reading
