Waiting for Writers and Readers.

Sometimes we chaff at how long it takes for things to happen, for God to answer our prayers. In the life of a writer a lot of time is spent waiting. Waiting for characters to be fleshed out. Of course we may still be writing at the same time and getting to know our characters. Waiting for a cooling off period after a draft of a manuscript is written, before going back to edit and revise. Then, when it is finally off to a publisher waiting for their response. Waiting for the postman to come with the good news of … Continue reading

Oh Baby! Celebrating and Still Waiting

He’s finally here. The baby Marissa Jaret Winokur never thought she would get to carry in her own arms has arrived via surrogate mother. The “Dancing with the Stars” contestant, who won over the hearts of millions of fans during last season’s run on the hit reality TV show, is finally a mother. Winokur and her husband, comedy writer Judah Miller, just announced the arrival of their first child, son Zev Isaac Miller. The baby boy was reportedly born on Tuesday and Winokur and Miller helped deliver him. According to reports, Zev (the name means “wolf” in Hebrew) weighed 8 … Continue reading

Waiting Productively

Yes, I’m back to the subject of waiting because it’s one I struggle with. If I do, it stands to reason some of you probably struggle with waiting too. As many of you know from previous blogs my husband and I are waiting on the sale of our house to go through, so we can purchase another home in a different area closer to family and to the church where we believe God is calling us. This week we recovered a phone call to say our buyer has applied for a first home buyer’s grant which has held the sale … Continue reading

Rescuing Pets Trapped by Bangkok Flooding

Every natural disaster, despite all of the attention it gets, always has a silent set of victims: animals. That’s not to say that we should devalue the lives of humans or even place those of their pets at quite the same level, but many times the media, and thus monetary relief, focuses on the effort to rescue and support the human victims and the pets get ignored. Of course pets are not entirely on their own in these situations. Groups like the Humane Society and the ASPCA work alongside the government and local officials in this country to help evacuate … Continue reading

Visiting Teaching Message-General Conference

For the month of November, we are asked to pick a general conference talk as our message to share with the sisters that we visit teach. I tend to try and think of things I need to hear again, study, or revisit when making a decision of which talk to share. The talk, “The Privilege of Prayer” by J. Devn Cornish came into my mind this time. His talk started out with a story about how his prayers were answered with a quarter he found on the sidewalk when he was in desperate need of a piece of fried chicken … Continue reading

Single Mothers Seminar

Last night I attended a single mothers seminar. I had been looking forward to it all week because I have been looking into some ways to make some money from home so I can keep Logan in daycare as little as possible. I also thought it would be a good way to connect with other single moms in the area. Well it was one of those days. It seemed like the entire universe was combining against me to keep me from making it to this seminar! My mother had agreed to watch my son for me, I even left on … Continue reading

On Procrastination III

The last two times I’ve explored procrastination. In the first part I wrote about that peculiar individual who always gets everything done on time but is a chronic procrastinator. They ALWAYS wait until the last minute to do the things they do but ALWAYS get things done. Somehow, though, they know they could do better. The minute after that paper is handed in or that presentation is given they see the flaws, the mistakes, and the areas for improvement. Their procrastination drove them to get things done, but not to do them as well as they could have. While their … Continue reading

Volunteers Help FamilySearch With Indexing

It’s amazing how much genealogy work can be accomplished when a bunch of volunteers all work together. Earlier this week, volunteers helped index a record setting amount of data into the FamilySearch Indexing program. This is one of many enhancements that are coming soon to the FamilySearch website. Around 550 volunteers sign up with the FamilySearch website daily to help out. This week, over 1.7 million records were indexed by volunteers. 700,000 of those records were arbitrated into FamilySearch’s Indexing program on Monday, March 21, 2011. This is the highest number of records ever done in a single day. FamilySearch … Continue reading
