Triumph over Evil and Hate

nullSometimes you read a book or watch a movie or play that resonates with your Christian life. Last night was like that for me. Last night my husband and I, along with two other couples, went and saw The Women of Lockerbie by Deborah Brevoort. You'll find more info about it here or in the marriage blog. But one thing that struck me was not just the story but the theme of the play which is the triumph of good over evil, love over hate.

And isn't that what the gospel message is all about? People disobeyed God and their sin cut them off from God, but God always had a plan to not allow evil to have the victory. As a holy God, he could not simply ignore sin. God did so much better than that! His rescue plan was always to send Jesus to be our Savior, to bring people back into relationship to Himself.

What a relief to know it is not something we have to do, because we couldn't, even if we tried. It is not about keeping rules and rituals. The Christian life is all about entering into a relationship with the Father though His Son. It is then a life seeking to live in obedience to His commands, not because we are compelled to and have no choice. Not because we have to obtain our salvation, because we can't. But living in obedience out of gratitude, because we want to please God.

God loved us so much he sent His Son so that all who believe can come into relationship with Him and be called children of God, John 3:16. That's the great thing. It's not about what we do but about what God has already done through Jesus, 2 Cointhians 5:18-21.

God ensured that evil and hate did not and will not triumph because God in love and compassion of His people provided the way out.
