Trials and Faith: Why is This Happening?

In preparing to wrap up my series of Trials and Faith, I receive and email from a long time best-friend. It was a heartfelt prayer request for her friend's family. This urgent request inspired me to write this blog and release it now rather than later. The prayer request was regarding a little boy who is now 3 who'd had brain cancer. He'd gone through at least radiation treatment, only to find out recently, his cancer returned. It was told to me that he will not be able to have any further radiation treatment and the type of cancer he has is not responsive to chemotherapy. Apparently, the only option for this young child is surgery.

I can't begin to imagine the pain that this family feels for their loved child. Here I am hundreds of miles a way; I don't even know this family and my heart hurts for them. So God, why is this happening? Why must there be pain like this in our lives? How do we encourage another believer when we ourselves aren't sure what your plans are? I think first of all, during such times when we feel helpless, we need to recognize, though God allowed this, He did not make this happen. We live in a fallen world and sickness is part of it. God is able to carry us through any situation and help us, whatever the outcome might be. God is not afraid of death, He is not afraid of trials, and He understands that we as His children just don't grasp His ways sometimes.

I have heard of and seen what the Lord can do with trials of our faith in situations such as this. I've seen different outcomes. I have yet to meet a Christian family who leaned on the Lord during their trial, and didn't prevail with greater strength and faith. I believe God can take a situation as devastating as this one and bring glory to Himself through any outcome.

I humbly plead with whoever is willing; please pray for this boy's life and his family?

Lord Jesus, I just lift this young child up to You in prayer along with his parents right now. I pray that he might live to be a testimony of your power and faithfulness. I pray you would give his parents strength, wisdom and faith right now. I ask that they would feel Your arms around them during this time. Whatever the outcome You will for this family, I pray for healing and glory to be to You. Please God, guide the doctor's hands, and fill them with wisdom and knowledge to restore this young precious child. Hold this little boy in your hands and keep him from fear. I pray for Your covering to be over the family and that you would place the right people into their lives to minister to them during this time. I know as You care for even the birds in the air, you care even more for us; thank you God for that. In Your name Jesus I pray in agreement with so many others, Amen.

I will post any updates in the comments section of this blog.

MJ- I'll pray also for this little boy. We will also pray for the doctors/nurses who will be in that operating room. God can do miracles

Many people feel restoration after surgery. Yes, God is the ultimate healer, but He uses people to carry out His work sometimes. My mom felt resored after her gallbladder was removed, my grandpa felt restored after his hip and knee were replaced, my grandma felt restored after her cancer was removed... These things happend and were prayed over that God would guide the doctors hands (not to err in their surgical manouvers). For wisdom (that God would impart this so they would work efficiently and percisely in their efforts) and for knowledge (that the doctors would apply the very things that they've learned and not forget).

Certainly God can do miricles, certainly He's designed our bodies to be resilient, but there is nothing wrong with seeking support from doctors and praying over the work they do to assist in preparation for what God will do.

Hi Melissa Yet another sad story, there seems so many of them, I have said a prayer for this little boy and his family. Keep us posted.

I'm praying for a total miricle with this boy. A surgery so far has not been scheduled. Our hope is that the doctors will find no reason to go forward with it and the cancer will not be found anywhere in his body.

I thank you everyone for your prayers for this brave little boy's life.

Surgery was apparently very successful! Thank you to those of you who sought God on this! God is so good--whether he answers prayer the way we hope or not. I can't thank all of you enough :).
