Must-Have Travel Accessory for Kids

I’ve spent the last eight years racking up more than 160,000 frequent flyer miles with my daughter during our annual jaunts from Wisconsin to Hawaii.  If all goes according to plan, we can get from our home to my parents’ house in roughly 18 hours. Of course, things rarely go according to plan. Honestly, I’ve lost track of how many hours I’ve spent in various airplanes and airports with a young child who would rather be anywhere other than in an airplane or airport. What I do recall are all of the mistakes I’ve made during those seemingly endless flights. … Continue reading

More Places to Find a Sensory Friendly Easter Bunny

This year, many places are having “sensory friendly” Easter Bunny events. It might also be called a “sensitive” or “caring” Easter Bunny. The purpose it to provide an environment that is easier for kids who have an autism spectrum disorder, a sensory integration disorder, or other special needs, to be able to enjoy a visit with the Easter Bunny. Here are a few more places you can find a “sensory friendly” Easter Bunny. On March 31, 2012, the Huntington Mall, which is located in Barboursville, West Virginia, will have a Special Easter Bunny event. It will begin at 9:00 in … Continue reading

Where to Find a Sensory Friendly Easter Bunny

Last year, around Christmas, several places offered “sensory friendly” or “sensitive” Santas. This enabled kids who have autism, or sensory integration dysfunction issues, to visit with Santa. Now, there are “sensitive” Easter Bunny events being held, for the same group of kids with special needs. On March 31, 2012, there will be a Sensitive Easter Bunny at the Timothy Hill Ranch / Apple Day Camp, which is located in Riverhead, New York. This event is for children who need to visit the Easter Bunny in a sensory friendly environment. The event will begin at 10:00 in the morning, and will … Continue reading

You are a PR person

Many businesses these days have PR or public relations people who are the visible face and voice of the business. They are the one who present a positive image to the world. They advertise it. But have you ever though that you are a PR person for your church firstly and for Jesus? I hadn’t thought if it quite like that until a friend recently said to me, ’You’d be a good PR person for your church. Oh hang on, I guess you already are.’ It’s true that those outside the church – our neighbors, friends, family and workmates are … Continue reading

Just What I Needed to Hear

I am amazed at how the Lord is continually watching over me. Why does it still amaze me? I’ve been a faithful LDS member for my whole life. I’ve seen His hand in my life over and over again. Yet, every time it happens, I am still amazed. This past weekend, I had a little meltdown. I had a moment where I was feeling discouraged. I was feeling like I was lacking so much. I felt like I would never measure up. I was feeling this way about being a Mom. I was feeling like that no matter how hard … Continue reading

Our Prophet Quotes Mother Theresa

Recently, I went to the 2010 General Relief Society Meeting that precedes General Conference every year. It was as wonderful as always. Full of words of wisdom from our leaders, full of beautiful, heavenly music, and full of wise words from our Prophet. President Monson gave a wonderful talk you can find here. I could not help but feeling a little bit called to repentance while also feeling encouraged and loved. Isn’t that what is so wonderful about having a living Prophet? My favorite part of his talk was when he quoted Mother Theresa in saying, “If you judge people, … Continue reading

More Lessons from My Mother

In my last blog entry, I recounted a few of the things I’ve learned from my fabulous mom. I’ve learned so much, though, that I felt I needed to add a few more that have shaped my LDS views on motherhood, selflessness, and church service. I learned how to be a mother from Mom (skills that I’ll soon be using). I learned what nurturing is at the hand of my mother. She’s the glue that makes our family function and every member feel fulfilled and loved. As the second oldest child of seven (and the oldest at home from age … Continue reading

Why Are Children Disobedient?

Many parents and teachers will tell you that children these days are disobedient. Why is that so? Because they are learning it from us. Too often we know exactly what we should do in a situation and yet we don’t do it. Even as I wrote those words, God convicted me. I knew I was guilty of doing exactly that. Yesterday I thought about calling someone to see how they were but didn’t because I wanted to do all the things I had to do, so I could finish reading the latest Jodi Picoult book. So this time when I … Continue reading

Something You May Not Have Thought About

Today I’m going to talk about something you may not have thought about as affecting your marriage, but it is something I suspect a few of us are guilty of. I know I am. The issue is negative self talk. This was something that came up during marriage preparation classes for a young couple I know. When I talk about marriage preparation classes I’m not talking about those quick fix couple of hour’s courses that are supposed to give all the answers to how to prepare you for marriage or solve any problems in your marriage in one easy lesson. … Continue reading
