Seeking Inspiration for Christian Blogging

While driving home last night I asked the Lord to lay on my heart some topics to write about. As I settled in my home for the night I started getting a flood of ideas. The initial passion I had to share about the Lord came back to me. I get inspiration by: • Going to church • Looking at God’s creations • Past experiences • Books • Topics of debate • Specific scriptures • Current events • Needs of other people • Things I’d like to know more about • Studying the Word • Devotional time • My children … Continue reading

How Important is Children’s Ministry?

Children are our future. They are also the future of the church. Children are important to Jesus as we see from Matthew 18:1-6 and Matthew 19:13-14. And yet, some churches seem to devalue children’s ministry by having poorly trained and inexperienced leaders working in children’s programs, by not taking an active role in training teachers or instituting programs that children do not want to be a part of. Information provided in Southern Cross magazine by Bible League Australia claims that Operation World says ‘every new generation needs to be evangelised afresh or the church soon becomes nominal.’ So to ensure … Continue reading

Do Homeschoolers Brainwash Their Kids?

I had a very interesting conversation with someone at the park yesterday. Someone who found it simply fascinating, if not backwards that we home school. As usual, when someone finds out we home school, I stood their answering a dozen and half questions like how will they socialize, what will we do about high school, is this legal, etc. Then came the clencher: Do you teach religion in your home school? The answer to that is technically no. Although we are Christians, time doing devotions, reading the Bible, and similar activities are family time and not technically school time. But … Continue reading

Waiting Prayerfully

To wait prayerfully means allowing God to speak to you through His Word and through a time of prayer. For my devotional time I have a journal which I keep for my reflections on the bible passages I read. My bible is littered with dates written next to verses where God has spoken to me. These journals go back years and take up a lot of room in our house. But I would never part with them. Memory is at times a fickle thing. Since my journals are all dated and indexed, I can go back and see exactly what … Continue reading

How to Do a Bible Study

Many people choose to learn about the Bible by starting with Genesis and reading forward until they finish Revelation. The problem with this is most people don’t make it to the end; they often get stuck in some of the Old Testament books and lose interest with who begat whom. Another problem I’ve heard, especially among non-Christians, is refusal to finish reading the Bible out of frustration with God—typically by the book of Job, where the hardships people faced don’t seem to make much sense. The Bible is so much more than a history or story book. To retain what … Continue reading

Where is Your Secret Place?

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’” (Psalm 91:1-2) A “secret place” is somewhere you can commune with the Lord; you can seek Him and pour out your soul. It’s a safe place where it’s just you and God; where the cares of the world cease. Sometimes we can get too wrapped up in our day to day life and forget the need to connect, just us with … Continue reading

Where Was That Scripture?

One of the most frustrating things for me is when I’m trying to recall a certain scripture from the Bible but I can’t for the life of me find where it is! I thought this is what concordances supposed to be for, but if the Bible doesn’t actually use the specific word for the subject, then the concordance isn’t much help. So, for Christmas several years ago my brother bought me the Where to Find It in the Bible: The Ultimate A to Z by Ken Anderson, which includes over 3,700 contemporary topics. Finally, there’s some hope. In this book … Continue reading

How to Prepare a Devotional

Have you ever been asked to supply a devotional for a Bible study? The first time I was asked to serve in this capacity I was extremely nervous. I didn’t know where to start. How should I choose a topic? How do I come up with enough information to fill up the allotted time? Though the process was scary, it ended up being a wonderful blessing. Here are a few ideas for how to develop a devotional that will bless you and those to whom you speak: First things first, pray about the theme, occasion and audience. What will your … Continue reading

The Proverbs 31 Woman: The Virtuous Wife

A friend of mine did a Bible study on the Proverbs 31 woman where she was asked to apply the scripture to her own life. As per her suggestion, I too would like to do this. I would also like to encourage other woman to look at the example set forth in the Bible of The Virtuous Wife and apply it to your lives as well: The Virtuous Wife 10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. … Continue reading
