The Prayer of Jabez: In Conclusion

One thing is for certain, the Bible tells us that “Jabez was more honorable than his brothers”. I believe His cry out to God was worth reflecting on in the midst of the genealogy for this reason. God granted Jabez his request because what he prayed was God’s will. Jabez sought God’s blessing, wanted more from and of Him in his life. He recognized the need for God’s hand to guide him, to keep him from the works of the enemy, and humbly asked that God not allow him to cause others pain. “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, … Continue reading

The Prayer of Jabez: That I Not Cause Pain

“…that I may not cause pain!” This last plea we read in 1 Chronicles 4:10 from Jabez is the most humble one. It’s as if he recognizes that because of evil in this world, even we are sometimes used to hurt others. Often this is without intention. The Bible tells us to be sober minded (Titus 2:6 and 1 Peter 4:7). This is so we can be better aware of what’s going on around us. I believe it’s also so we will be vigilant not allowing the enemy to use us as a vessel to do harm to others. Consider … Continue reading

The Prayer of Jabez: Keep Me from Evil

“…and that You would keep me from evil,…” Like Bruce Wilkinson, author of the book The Prayer of Jabez, stated that sometimes we find ourselves asking God to help us to endure as we face trials in our lives. I find myself doing this often. I suppose I just assume that I’m going to have temptation and want God’s help in bringing truth and clarity to me during those times. Personally, I don’t always think about just asking God to keep me from it. I’m sure we all have times in our lives where we are at a breaking point … Continue reading

The Prayer of Jabez: Be With Me

“…that Your hand would be with me,…” Perhaps after asking God to bless you and to increase your territory, you are feeling a bit overwhelmed. You just can’t do it all by your own power and need your mighty Father’s hand to help you. Recognizing the need for the Lord’s hand in your life is such an important step in your walk toward abundant living. As acknowledged in: Joshua 4:24, “…that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the LORD, that is mighty, that you may fear the LORD your God forever.” Isaiah 59:1, “Behold, the … Continue reading

The Prayer of Jabez: Increase My Territory

“…and enlarge my territory,…” When we are applying Bruce Wilkinson’s book The Prayer of Jabez, based on 1 Chronicles 4:10 to our own life, “territory” does not have to mean real estate or financial gain. There are so many ways this prayer can be incorporated. For example: Influence: That God would expand the area in which you can be of influence others by the message of the gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit. There are so many out there who are lost and searching for purpose and hope. Responsibility: Whether it’s in your job or any other aspect … Continue reading

The Prayer of Jabez: Bless me!

“Oh, that You would bless me indeed,…” You can hear almost hear the cry of Jabez’ heart to God, “bless me indeed.” As Bruce Wilkinson shares in his book The Prayer of Jabez, some might view this prayer as a bit selfish. But God wants us to come to Him. Just as our children know they can come to us for their needs to be met, it’s okay to ask our heavenly Father for our needs to be met as well. How would you love to have your children seek you for your wisdom, relationship and desire for what is … Continue reading

The Prayer of Jabez: Intro

I’ve decided to start a blog series on one of the most life changing prayers. Some of you might remember right after the new millennium, many churches were heavily promoting Bruce Wilkinson’s book titled, The Prayer of Jabez. Just as with Rick Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life, Bible studies were popping up throughout churches as the hunger for God’s blessing was cried out to Him. The short acknowledgement in the book of 1 Chronicles chapter 4: 9-10, has left a lasting impact on people’s lives changing the way many pray. Jabez’ life must have been special as the writer … Continue reading

The Opportunity to Respond to Life

I have always said that although we are Christians, we don’t homeschool for religious reasons. We homeschool because to send our children to our local public school would be akin to educational neglect in our minds. We homeschool because we have some gifted children whose needs would not be met. We homeschool because when we were first looking at the school, the teacher told me, “Oh no, the kids never handle books because they might wear them out.” However, being Christians, religion is not absent from our homeschooling. In fact, I would say it’s an integral part of our day. … Continue reading

The Lighthouse

I was browsing eBay today and came across some certified prints from one of my favorite artists, Thomas Kinkade. One in particular of a lighthouse really inspired me to write. Well, actually, what it did was remind me of a song sung by the Christian band Audio Adrenaline called “Lighthouse” (lyrics provided at the bottom of this article). I began to think of my life and what it was like when I was drifting aimlessly while my eyes were shut. I can recall the spiritual battle for my soul; one side encouraging me to open my eyes and fix them … Continue reading

The Armor of God for Christian Soldiers

Ephesians 6:10-18 “10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand … Continue reading
