Ask a Marriage Blogger: Are You Protecting Your Spouse or Taking Away Their Choices?

A few days ago, I received a private message from a reader and I apologize to her that I’m just now getting around to addressing this question. I have a question and you might be the right person to answer it. I enjoy reading your blogs and I find that many times we are on the same wavelength. A few weeks ago, my husband and I were talking about having children. We’ve been married for two years and his parents are very eager to become grandparents. He’s never expressed a great deal of interest one way or another before, but … Continue reading

Is Giving Meal Choices a Good Idea?

Plenty of parents I know make up separate meals for the kids and the adults or older children in the family. One mom and dad actually make an average of three different dinners each night, just to make sure that everyone in the family eats. Now I understand that certain childhood disabilities, from diabetes to autism, may require special diets, and in those cases parents have to do what they have to do. That isn’t what I am talking about.  More so, I am referring to families with healthy, average children who have fallen into the pattern of becoming short … Continue reading

Florida Health Choices and the Affordable Care Act

Florida has been working on a health insurance marketplace called Florida Health Choices. It does not comply with the requirements set in place for insurance exchanges by the Affordable Care Act. What does this mean for the Florida program? According to the Kaiser Family Foundation Health Reform Source, Florida started working on an initiative called Florida Health Choices in 2008. When completed, it will be a web portal that individuals, and small businesses, can use to find health insurance coverage in Florida. Florida started beta testing the web portal in September of 2012. Florida Health Choices has some similarities to … Continue reading

Don’t Judge My Choices Until You Live My Life

Is there anyone who hasn’t heard about the horrific shooting in Colorado? Friday at work it was all anyone could talk about and as fellow blogger pointed out in her blog, Watch Where You Point That Finger, everyone had an opinion about people taking their children to the movies in the first place. Apparently those people have never been single parents. Or maybe they’ve never been any type of parent but I know, as a single parent, sometimes, midnight showings are your best friend. If your kids are young, you hope they will sleep through the movie. As a single … Continue reading

Did I Make the Right Choice?

When I was 18 years old I found myself pregnant. I had just started my first semester of college and had just broken up with my boyfriend the day before; the timing couldn’t have been worse. I was now being faced with a very difficult decision. Do I place this baby for adoption or do I try to parent him on my own? I wrestled with this decision for a long time. I researched my options and eventually came to the decision that I was going to parent him. His father and I married about a year later, and two … Continue reading

Preschool Primer Part 3 – Making The Choice

Yesterday, I described some of the types of preschool curricula that parents may encounter when they are going through the process of choosing a preschool for their toddler. Curriculum is important because it gives you an idea of what your child will be doing all day and whether there is a comfortable balance between free, creative play and structured activity. Of course, choosing a preschool is about more than just the curriculum. Today I will discuss the other factors that are a part of the preschool choosing process. Basic items like cost, location, transportation, and pick up/drop off times as … Continue reading

Album Choices

My previous post about purchasing marked down leather scrapbooks may have led you to believe that I don’t care much about the type of albums I use to house my layouts. This could not be further from the truth. The books weren’t cheap or ugly. Rather, they retailed for more than $40 each, but I snagged super savings by shopping at a post-holiday sale and using a coupon for an additional 20 percent off my total purchase. Moreover, I enjoy working with leather albums, as they are extremely functional and durable. Leather scrapbooks are also aesthetically pleasing, and their sleek … Continue reading
