The Armor of God for Christian Soldiers

Ephesians 6:10-18 “10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand … Continue reading

A Prayer For Each Day

In the film ‘Friendly Persuasion’ Eliza Birdwell’s response to the challenge, thrown out by Major Harvey, for the Quakers to become involved in the war, was to pray ‘The will of God be revealed and we be given the strength and grace to follow Thy will.’ This is a prayer each of us could each use to start each day. For like it or not we are all involved in a war. Our war is not against a flesh and blood enemy. Our war is ‘against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the … Continue reading

Offensive Weapons

Last night while watching the Australian Open and the Hewitt/Djokovic match, it occurred to me that Hewitt never really looked like winning the match. All he was doing was hanging in there. To my eyes, he didn’t appear to have the weapons to do his opponent any harm. When you look at the top players they all have a massive serve, a killer forehand or some weapon that time and time again they unleash when they are in need of an extra fillip or to get them out of trouble. As Christians we need to do more than just hang … Continue reading

What to Do When A Friend is in Danger

My blog yesterday reminded me of one of a difficult decision I once had to make concerning a difference of opinion. Some years back I received a letter from a friend who’d been a faithful Christian and a member of the church and a bible study group I attended. She moved interstate. We kept in touch but she didn’t mention having hooked up with a new church since the move. Then one day I got a letter that alarmed me. She had become meeting with a sect that came to the door with their literature. This was more than just … Continue reading

Counterfeit Goodness

The author of counterfeit goodness in this world is none other than Satan himself. He is the enemy of our souls who despises us as God’s creation and is full of envy toward our loving and merciful Father. Satan uses counterfeit goodness when there is a need or desire in our lives. He’s had centuries of working on his sales pitch and frankly he’s quite good at it. Unfortunately, if we should choose to buy into his false promises, we will end up cheated with junk to carry around. As you may recall Eve bought into Satan’s deceit regarding wisdom … Continue reading
