Take Time to Pray (2)

Previously I wrote a blog over different times and situations in which one could take the opportunity to pray. Here are a few more times, things, and people for which Christians can pray to the Lord.

Pray . . .

  • Before making a big decision (or even a little decision). It is vital to include God in your plans no matter what you are doing. Sometimes I find it easier to remember to pray before things like making a decision about taking a new job or moving than the little decisions I make in my life. Although it is not always easy, Christians ought to take the attitude of, "if the Lord wills." James 4:13-15 furthers explains the approach Christians should have: "Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"-- yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that."
  • For the future of you and your family. My mom has always told me that she prayed for my sister and I to find good Christian men for our husbands. I have certainly been blessed in that area of my life! Christians can pray for help to overcome future temptations, especially for sins that have haunted them in the past.
  • For your enemies. In Matthew 5:44 Jesus says, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." It is very hard to think of those who seek to do harm to you, but Christians should pray for them. Christ set this example when he prayed for those who crucified Him.
  • For those in power. Christians should pray for the President and other leaders in the world. First Timothy 2:1-4 states: "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."
