Starving Spirituallyby Melissa J | More from this Blogger 04 Aug 2006 01:09 PM Feeling weak, tired, overwhelmed, stressed? Are you feeling like something is missing and you can't quite pinpoint it? Have you considered that you may be running on empty spiritually speaking? Sometimes we can forget that our faith is living and breathing and needs to be nourished just as our bodies need to be. It's too easy to get wrapped up in life making decisions, stressing out about this or that and really playing god over our own life. We were not built to take on the worries of the world but rather to cast our worries or cares upon Christ (1Peter 5:7) who's yoke is easy and burden is light (Matthew 11:29-30). Sometimes when we feel emptiness, rather than being fed with prayer or devotion in the Word, we start filling ourselves up on things that derail us even more from God. How many times have you become down and rather than pray seeking God, you start eating in boredom, go shopping to cheer yourself up, shut yourself away...? All these things can end up making you feel worse. I suggest when you start feeling like something is missing:
fter doing any of these things, I always seem to feel better. You know how they used to say in the commercials "Coke- its the Real Thing" and how true that is with God- He is the Real Thing. He is what we truly need for refilling and refreshment. When we fill the "God void" in our life with everything else but Him - then we create an insatiability, an endless thirst. We keep wanting more and more, and can never be satisfied for we are not filling ourselves with God- we are chosing poor substitutes which keep us sad, and unfulfilled and longing for more. May we remember to chose Him First for He will always fill our cup to overflowing! Blessings, Jody Moreen Community Tags faith, god, Jesus, prayer Discuss this article
