Tearing Down Walls and Starting New

One of the hardest things to come to grips with before I’d truly turned my life over to God is that God was really capable of changing me. I lacked the faith He would because I’d cried out to Him and didn’t initially see anything great take place. Perhaps the reason I wasn’t seeing change in my life was because I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to let go of my old life. Once I was ready, I was at a point where I wanted to throw everything down. This is exactly what God wanted and needed from me. Because … Continue reading

Week in Review: Skeptics to Being Busy

This week I wanted to put a little more focus on reaching out as Christians. I shared about dealing with those who are critical and skeptical; the challenge in witnessing to such and handling debates when they arise. I also wrote about the harvest of souls ready for a savior, giving your all, and making time for God. In Skeptics and Critics: The Challenge, I talked about some of the challenging questions asked by those who are skeptical of Christianity. The Bible tells us we should have an answer for the hope that is in us so it’s important we … Continue reading

Skeptics and Critics: Debating

Most Christians I know choose not to engage in debates finding it pointless and a waste of their energy. While I completely understand, so often when it appears a person is debating, they are actually trying to seek answers and testing what they may believe as truth against what others believe. Though an unbeliever who wants to debate may truly intend to frustrate and stump you for their own personal satisfaction, so often there is a part of them that is seeking more than they care to admit. For this reason, it is so important to follow what the Bible … Continue reading

Skeptics and Critics: The Challenge

Likely you’ll find those who are skeptical of the Christian faith are going to be the ones to challenge you in your beliefs. Not only might they ask tough questions you might not have answers to, but your very walk might be put under a magnifying glass. We as Christians really don’t have all the answers. It would be great if we did. It is difficult for so many to understand what it is to live by faith. It’s really important we as Christians be grounded enough so we know why we believe as we do so we don’t allow … Continue reading

I’m Too Far Gone for Jesus to Save

“Jesus wouldn’t want me; I’m too much of a sinner.” It grieves my heart to hear these kinds of statements from people who are very much in need of a savior. People with these feelings of inadequacy seem to miss the point entirely of what it means to need saving. Being “far gone” at any level is precisely why Jesus paid the price He did for us; we were not capable of saving ourselves. While it’s true that God expects us to strive toward holiness, He knows that spiritual maturity doesn’t happen over night. That’s why I believe it’s important … Continue reading

How to Do a Bible Study

Many people choose to learn about the Bible by starting with Genesis and reading forward until they finish Revelation. The problem with this is most people don’t make it to the end; they often get stuck in some of the Old Testament books and lose interest with who begat whom. Another problem I’ve heard, especially among non-Christians, is refusal to finish reading the Bible out of frustration with God—typically by the book of Job, where the hardships people faced don’t seem to make much sense. The Bible is so much more than a history or story book. To retain what … Continue reading

Learning As I Go

“And I, brethren, could not speak to you as spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it…” (1 Corinthians 3:1-2; NKJV) At the age of 14 my dad made sure to remind me in quite the facetious way, “You never know more than you do at 14.” I think I got that for the remainder of my teen years. As a teenager I believed I had so much more of life figured out than I was given … Continue reading

Freedom of Choice

With all the chaos, hunger, disease and destruction in the world, if God loves His children so much, why doesn’t He spare them? Why would a loving God allow anyone to suffer? To be honest with you, I really don’t know for sure. I believe as much as we are absorbed in this world, it is only a sliver of our “life”. Perhaps God is more concerned with where our hearts are during times of trial and tragedy than the pain we endure? I know before Adam and Eve committed the first sin, they’d been warned by God. The choices … Continue reading

Harvest Time

I’m not talking about the season of harvest that comes each year. I’m talking about a harvest that is year round. It’s a harvest of souls in need of the Savior. Unfortunately, this harvest is in grave need of workers! “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” (Matthew 9:37-38) As I look around … Continue reading
