Sharing One View on Homosexual Marriage

I have heard people say that homosexual marriage is not hurting anyone, and that those who are gay deserve to be happy having the same rights as heterosexual couples have. I have been very reluctant to write about this because it is such a heated topic. I would just like to share my thoughts on homosexual marriage and why I believe the acceptance of it to be part of the subtle decay of morality which was foretold in the Bible. I do not support gay marriage, the marriage of more than 2 people, marriage to animals, adults marrying children, or … Continue reading

Seeking Inspiration for Christian Blogging

While driving home last night I asked the Lord to lay on my heart some topics to write about. As I settled in my home for the night I started getting a flood of ideas. The initial passion I had to share about the Lord came back to me. I get inspiration by: • Going to church • Looking at God’s creations • Past experiences • Books • Topics of debate • Specific scriptures • Current events • Needs of other people • Things I’d like to know more about • Studying the Word • Devotional time • My children … Continue reading

A Hot Topic in the LDS Church

The subject of homosexuality and the gospel has been on my mind a lot lately, and on the mind of many Latter-Day Saints, I’m sure. I have had many discussions with friends inside and outside of the church about these issues. I know people that are gay. I live close to people that are gay, and there are people in our society that I truly admire that are gay. Recently, an active member of the church posted a blog post sharing his intimate story about how he is a homosexual living in a heterosexual marriage, and recently decided to share … Continue reading

What Does It Mean To Be Narrow Minded?

Hmm, I think this depends on who you ask and how exactly they define narrow mindedness. I think secular society considers the narrow minded to be those who refuse to believe or accept points of view other than their own. They may also see those who are “narrow minded” as socially intolerant and self-righteous. Assuming my generalization of narrow mindedness is fairly accurate, I’d like to address some of these points. First off, is it really wrong to have a set belief? Is it wrong to have faith in what your religion says to be true? If it is, aside … Continue reading

Accountability Partners

Most Christians I’ve talked with seem to have a pretty good understanding of what an accountability partner is. It’s a fellow believer that you can go to for prayer requests, fellowship, study, and well of course, accountability. When choosing an accountability partner, it’s probably better you find someone other than your spouse and someone of the same gender as yourself. No one is going to understand women’s issues better than a woman, and no one will understand a man’s issues quite like a man. Typically, though not always, men and women tend to have different types of struggles. Women tend … Continue reading

What Satan Wants You to Believe: Part 2

Part 1 of this two part series I addressed the lies of Satan: Denying Jesus as God, that God’s power is no longer here with us, questioning the accuracy of the Bible, and the beliefs that people who do signs in wonders in Jesus name are all of God. So, here I’ll continue: Question what God Says. “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” By Satan causing Eve to question the Lord’s sincerity and warning about the tree, Eve justified partaking of the fruit as did her husband. Justify what is sinful. This … Continue reading

Are Christians called to be Tolerant?

What do you think? When I read about Jesus I see a man that accepted those who wanted Him. Though He did accept them where they were, He did not condone their sin. Take for example John 8:1-11. The scribes and Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman who was engaging in adultery. Jesus told them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” Of course the accusers left. None of us are without sin. Jesus followed up saying to the woman, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Jesus acknowledged … Continue reading

Deciding Right From Wrong

This is part 3 in the Values that Last series where I’ll be touching on discerning right from wrong. My first blog was on choosing my standard and my second one was on why my beliefs matter. Each one of us has a basis for determining what is right from what is wrong in our lives. Just because something feels right, doesn’t mean that it is. As a Christian, my authority is God, and His guide book for my life is the Bible. As I look at 8 common pleasures in society, I can see potential for destruction: Eating: Like … Continue reading

Choosing My Standard

This is the first part of a small group series I’ve been working in called, “Values that Last“. Though I could probably write several blogs on this session alone, I am just going to focus on the specific areas that really hit home for me. There seems to be a decay of truth in today’s society. This is likely a result of three philosophies (among others) that have taken root in our society: Individualism: Personal independence, relying on yourself, the standard of your own life and what seems right to you. “In those days there was no king in Israel; … Continue reading
