Provoke Someone Today!

Did you know that the Bible instructs us to provoke each other? We are to provoke each other to love, that is. Hebrews 10:24 says, “And let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works.” What do you normally think of when you hear the word “provoke”? I usually picture an argument I have had with another person. There comes a point in a given argument when I make a decision: Do I let the conversation drop and walk away from it, or do I say something to further make my case and incense the other … Continue reading

A Year to Remember

I don’t know where it went, but this month I’m celebrating my year anniversary being a Marriage Blogger. Confessions Last year, then managing editor, Heather Long, sent out a notice asking us bloggers if we’d be interested in either changing categories or adding on to any existing ones. I saw Marriage was one she was looking to staff. I’d guest blogged there a couple of times. I was interested in challenging myself. I asked if in addition to Pets I could also be assigned to Marriage. I alternated between jubilation and panic when her answer was, “Yes.” Okay, my wish … Continue reading

Little Things Mean a Lot

Yesterday we looked at how encouraging words can boost spirits. I hope you’ve been trying it in your life. Our minister was on vacation last week, so one of the men of our congregation gave the sermon on Sunday. His talk was practical and biblical. Have you ever watched people yelling at their kids or arguing with their spouse, in a public place and thought I’d never do that? Or seen someone react to a generous offer by brushing the person’s generosity aside with a curt ‘No, I’m okay,’ and think I’d never do that? Or hear someone pay a compliment to another and hear it brushed aside by the pious comment, ‘It’s the Lord doing it.’ Do you ever see Christians in the news for all the wrong reasons as mentioned in the blog I read this morning about ‘Christians behaving badly’ and think … Continue reading

Concerned and Consistent Christianity

‘To Love anyone is nothing less than to wish that person good,’ Thomas Aquinas said. Sometimes showing our love, requires us to correct or discipline as we may have to do with our children. Or we may have to admonish or to warn those we love, as I did in the letter I wrote to a friend. See my blog, what to do when a friend is in danger. In 1 Corinthians 4:14-21 Paul is faced with this problem of having to exercise tough love. Paul recognized that the Corinthian church had problems. The church was divided and worldly, I … Continue reading
