Praise God in the Hard Times?

You've got to love children and the things they come out with. Here's an example from the praise board in the Sunday school room of the local churches. 'I praise God for making crabs and I'm going to get one.' Don't you just love it!

It was interesting the other night when at choir to sit and read the things children praised God for. It reinforced what I'd been talking about the other day about how ready children are to praise God and how we can learn from them.

Another one I saw recently was from a young woman who praised God for her disability. No, that it's not a misprint. She praised God for the disability because it made her depend on Him more. Our family can relate to that.

When our daughter was critically ill some years back, it was hard to think there could be anything to praise God for. But we praised God for the people who prayed for and with us, for the practical support we received from other Christians including places to stay while she was in hospital and then later when she came out but still needed to be near enough to the hospital for daily treatment. We praised God for the skill and insight of the doctor who diagnosed the problem in our local country hospital and the speed with which they then moved her down to Sydney for specialist and intensive care. We praised God for those who had donated desperately needed blood and plasma. We praised God for the faithfulness of those who continued to pray.

It was one of the hardest times we have gone through as a family. For some time after she was well, she was unable to talk about that time because it was all too painful. But I look at where she is now and how strong she is in her faith and see that God was able to use that whole experience. She is a much stronger Christian because of it and has a powerful testimony to share of how God answers prayer and of God's healing power. Praise God!
