Practical Wisdomby Dale Harcombe | More from this Blogger 29 Apr 2009 05:59 PM
We each have different ideas and expectations about what life should be like. But instead of dwelling on our views of life, we need to have God's view of life. And God has shown us what His view of life is and what He expects of us. 'He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God,' Micah 6:8. So we can't say we don't know what God wants, because it is set out in black and white. God's view of life is one where people will 'deal faithfully' and not tell lies, Proverbs 12:22. God's Word tells us, 'the wise man is cautious and turns away from evil but a fool is arrogant and careless.' There are verses which tell us what God's character is like and also what He expects or does not except from his people. Proverbs 14:31 says 'He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he who is gracious to the need honors Him.' Or this one, 'The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but He loves him who pursues righteousness,' Proverbs 15:9. We're also told plenty about our business dealings as well as the character of God of 'a false balance is an abomination to the Lord but a just weight is His delight,' Proverbs 11:1. These are just a few examples from Proverbs. There are plenty of others. Throughout the Bible we are given pictures of God so we can build up a realistic picture not only of God's character but of how He wants us to behave. God wants us to be wise. He wants us then to put our wisdom and what we have learned into practice.
