Parenting Series: Intro

What bigger assignment do we have as parents than raising our kids in a God respecting and loving home; planting the seeds of wisdom into their young lives that they may grow and blossom into the adults God would have them be in preparation for their own? This isn't always easy. After all, we are only human and dealing with our own Christian walks on a daily basis. So how can we, who are so imperfect, impart truth and wisdom of our perfect and loving Father in our children?

The next several blogs I would like to write will be on specific aspects of growing a family in the Lord. I am certainly no expert in this subject and plan to learn as I go. I hope to get into subjects ranging from prayer to living a life that is an example to our children. I hope you too will take the opportunity to examine your household and make changes that need to be made as the Lord leads you.

I will be evaluating my own home life as I write and will be looking for ways to bring our family closer to the Lord, more disciplined, God fearing, more respectful of ourselves and others, for ways to stay more connected as a family, planning for our kids' adolescent years, and knowing specifically where to begin praying.

My hope is that those of you, who have children, or nieces and nephews, have had an opportunity to insert a sentence or two into your time with these children. Do they know who you serve? Do they know Jesus at all?

"But Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.'" (Matthew 19:14)

Be prepared to answer any questions your children might have regarding God as you take these opportunities to talk with them. In 1 Peter 3:15 we are told to have an answer and a reason for the hope that lies within us. And our hope is Jesus Christ.
