Our Potter

Like a potter's hands mold and form the clay, so does God with us. I liken our walk without the Lord to being our own potter. Without an all knowing wisdom or direction, we can still sculpt ourselves in to something. Sometimes it's functional; sometimes it's full of holes, tears or bends that can't be worked out. If you've worked with clay on a potter's wheel, you might recall frustration the first time you tried to create. If your work doesn't take form, it can become difficult to work with and needs to be either cut away or recycled. This is how I see myself before coming to Christ. I had no idea where I was going. I looked good on some parts, but other parts of me were thick or too thin and would likely break when put through fire in the kiln.

I see the kiln as a process we all go through in life. We will all face trials that will either break us or turn us into something more strong, and functional. If the clay was not worked correctly before sculpting, air bubbles inside can cause breakage.

God is our professional Potter. He even made the clay and has a plan for how to use us! It just takes turning our own work over to the Master and allowing Him to turn us into something beautiful. He can break the useless creation we've sculpted for ourselves and remake us into what He wants as we allow Him too.

There are a few scriptures that are a metaphor in seeing God as our Potter: Isaiah 29:16; 45:9; Jeremiah 18:6; Romans 9:21. I'd like to share what Isaiah 64:8 tells us, "But no, O LORD, You are our Father' we are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand."

If you feel like you are struggling or feel somewhat aimless in your direction; if you feel like giving up and letting the Master take over and mold you, I hope you will pray and ask God to make you new again. He has a plan for you. You are His masterpiece!

Scripture reference was quoted from the NKJV.
