"Now, Go Do The Right Thing."

If you have spent any time listening to the popular Conservative talk radio doctor-diva, Dr. Laura Schlesinger, you've probably heard her catchy phrase at the end of each segment of her show, "Now, go do the right thing." It's a, no nonsense plea cast out to her listeners intended to encourage others to be better people.

The other day I was really thinking about this simple phrase. What it would be like if everyone took Dr. Laura's advice and really did decide to do the right thing? Keeping in mind, I'm from the school of thought there is a "right" and a "wrong" most of the time. Here are some further thoughts I had:

• If people really did try to do the right thing, they would think about the consequences of their actions prior to doing whatever it is they were going to do. They would look at the bigger picture and be less likely to give into temptation in the heat of the moment. In other words, people would practice more self-control.

• Maybe people would be a lot less self-centered and think about how their choices may affect those around them. Maybe as a result, more marriages would survive, the environment would be cleaner ecologically speaking, and government would have earned a better reputation?

• Honesty might be the best policy. Maybe there would be less sins being buried and less corporate cover-ups.

• I imagine there would be more respect for God, therefore more obedience to His word and the blessings and benefits of following His will for our lives would become more evident to us.

• Just maybe there would be world peace if everyone decided to do the right thing. Can you imagine?

I think if everyone went and did the right thing, we might live in a pretty near-perfect world. I hope this provides some food for though to your day whether you agree or not. And, as Dr. Laura would say, "Now, go do the right thing."
