My Muslim Friendby Melissa J | More from this Blogger 12 Sep 2006 11:41 AM The following was shared with permission by the addressee. Regardless of our faith, we are all human and made in God's image. He loves each one of us. The Bible says that God is no respecter of persons (Romans 2:11). How are we to be lights in the lives of others if we cannot do so with respect for them? To My Muslim Friend, I'm so sorry to hear someone would be ignorant to call or associate you of all people with anything wicked! Your mission has been successful in dispelling myths. I thought that all Muslims hated Christians and Jews. I didn't know they were allowed to marry someone of another faith. Your writing has brought insight and a sense of unity to many, allowing us to disagree in respect for one another. Though we each may have our own beliefs that we are right, we can agree we have God-given choice to worship how we will. I imagine I would have similar feelings as you too though if people were attacking and stating lies about me. Just like Islam have some extremist groups that stray from your scriptures, Christians have them too. As a result, our faith is often judged unfairly. People do horrible things to others in the name of "God" in our faith. They twist and turn scripture to justify their evil acts. Many people turn their own away by claiming to be Christian but living otherwise. Now a day, to be a Christian means so many different things. You almost have to associate yourself with a denomination to not be misjudged--but even then there are those who pervert scripture from within. I hope you will continue to share your insights on things here. We need your logical, conservative and compassionate tone to continue on the site. Even if there are unkind people out there that choose to be ignorant about your faith, please know that you have had an impact on others and have been more successful at working toward peace and understanding. It means the world to me. You are right-- honest, respectful religious dialogue is so very important, especially in these trying times. I am so happy to learn that the Muslim blog had a positive impact on you. It was never my intention to convert anyone; I simply wanted to educate and dispel myths. If even one person learned something, I accomplished that goal. Thank you so much for sharing. Megan Bayliss (3586) 12 Sep 2006 02:13 PMBeautiful Melissa. There is so much hysteria around about Islam that we often lose sight that like Christianity, Islam also has fundamental fractions - albeit some very large fractions. I have many Muslim friends. They are gentle, dedicated to making the world a better place for all people, and ashamed of those millitants who terrorise the populas in the name of Allah and under the banner of Jihad. They hang their heads in shame, remorse and desolation at the current fear of all Muslims. Not all Muslim people are like the Osama followers we receive images of daily. But then, not all Christians are like the archetypal Jesus figure either. Take care and thank you MJ and Misty. Community Tags islam, muslim, religious tolerance, Respect Discuss this article
