Looking For My Father

When I was twenty-seven, I decided to come to Utah to find my biological father. It wasn’t difficult to locate him, and he seemed genuinely glad to be reunited with me. It was a strange, bittersweet experience. As I met his other children, I got to be around people who looked like me and had similar talents and intellects for once. As my father and I interacted, I slowly began to understand why my parents were not able to stay together. The problems went far beyond incompatibility. They were incapable of being there for each other. They each had severe … Continue reading

J.R. Martinez Wins Dancing with the Stars

I think this is the first time a soap opera star has won the famed mirror ball trophy on “Dancing with the Stars,” but J.R. Martinez is far from a typical soap opera actor. I will admit that when I first heard Martinez’s name, I didn’t know who he was. I doubt many people outside the “All My Children” viewing audience knew who he was either, but now it seems the whole world not only knows him, but also loves him. Martinez had an abrupt change of careers do to nothing he did. Martinez was a good-looking kid who joined … Continue reading

Great Genealogy Blogs

Looking for the latest news in genealogy? A great way to do that is to subscribe to some of the genealogy blogs that function like newsletters. They are free to subscribe to, and many provide daily updates about news articles relating to genealogy. It sure saves time to have all this information collected in one place, ready for you to read. I like the genealogy blogs and newsletters because they do more than just provide links to resources that you can search through as you work on your own genealogy projects. The information found on these kinds of websites lets … Continue reading

The Green Cars of the Stars

Yesterday, I blogged about Daryl Hannah and how she was one of the first celebrities to have her car converted to run on biodiesel. But, she is not the only celebrity that drives green. I think the first green car I remember hearing that a celebrity was driving was the Toyota Prius. In fact, when we lived in San Diego almost ten years ago, we visited the Getty Center and they had hookups for electric cars such as the Prius. The Prius has plenty of fans now days, but some of the more famous are Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, America … Continue reading

How to Meet Your Favorite Hollywood Stars

Los Angeles is the place to be if you are starstruck fan looking to bump into your favorite celebs. Unfortunately, a summer trip to Hollywood doesn’t always yield random meetings with Tinseltown hotties. Sure, there’s always a chance you might cross paths with a star while shopping at The Grove or Whole Foods, but you might have better luck on Hollywood Boulevard where the wax versions of entertainment’s elite are now on display. Madame Tussauds newest wax museum just opened a location in Hollywood next to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and steps away from Oscar’s Kodak Theatre and the Hollywood Walk … Continue reading

Are They Looking for the Greatest American Dog or Trainer?

Even before a reader left a comment on one of my “Greatest American Dog” articles about how could I buy the junk the show’s trying to sell us, I was already starting not to like certain things about the show. I’ll address more of those in a separate article to follow later, but for now I’ll talk about my main gripe: it seems they’re not so much looking for the greatest American dog as they are the greatest American trainer. Because forget what happens in the Dog Bone Challenge, it all comes down to how well the owner worked with … Continue reading

ABC Reality TV Stars Hook Up… Maybe

Now here’s a romance that should make execs at ABC very, very happy. According to Us Weekly, “Dancing with the Stars” pro mover and shaker Karina Smirnoff (a.k.a. Mario Lopez’s ex-girlfriend) and “The Bachelor” Andy Baldwin (a.k.a. Marla Maples’ ex-boyfriend and Tessa Horst’s ex-fiance) having been getting their groove on… together… in public. Word of the romance leaked yesterday, but today Smirnoff issued a statement saying that the rumored hook up is just that—“rumors, rumors, rumors.” The 30-year-old smoking hot dancing queen told Us, “I’m sure Andy is a cool guy; however, there is absolutely no truth to any of … Continue reading

Hollywood Stars Giving Their All to Give to Those in Need

Justin Timberlake the singer/actor/fashion designer/restaurant owner is adding a new line to his resume—philanthropist. The 27-year-old former Mouseketeer is making headlines for digging deep and giving big to aid two organizations close to his heart. Last week, the Memphis native donated $100,000 each to the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum and the Memphis Music Foundation in an effort to support music education. Timberlake dropped off the checks during a break from filming his new movie “The Open Road,” which is being shot not far from his boyhood Tennessee town. Executives with the organizations say they will use Timberlake’s contributions to … Continue reading
