Great Math Apps for Primary Kids

It’s the time of year when outside becomes a lot more focus than inside, and so it should. It’s a beautiful time of the year, and the kids need to be outdoors. However, when they’re looking for down time on the computer, and they love math, where can you send them? Here are some of the top math apps that I’m looking at as teaching tools for the summer. My daughter and I both love Math Drills and Math Drills Lite. The lite version is free, and the paid version is only $1.99. While the app is not beautiful, it’s … Continue reading

Special Needs Blog Week in Review – May 27 – June 2, 2012

Once a week, the Special Needs Blog Week in Review brings you a quick summary of each of the blogs that appeared here in the past week. It gives you an easy way to find the ones that you missed, or that you didn’t have time to read the first time around. The Special Needs Podcast Roundup went up on May 28, 2012. This week, I’d like to point out an episode by FAQAutism. The episode is called “End-of-the-School-Year-Blues”. It discusses how the changes that occur at the end of the school year alter the usual, expected, routine of the … Continue reading

Primary Bulletin Board

This year, the theme in primary is Choose The Right. It’s been a great theme to talk to my kids at home about too. Even my 3 year old will say to me when he is reprimanded for doing something wrong, “Mommy, that’s not choosing the right!”. It’s an easy concept to teach to children, so I’m glad it is our theme for 2012. Part of my calling that I have to admit I haven’t been too great at, is decorating our ward bulletin board. However, this year, we have another ward that is in our building with us that … Continue reading

Have a Merry Mary Engelbreit Christmas

Reading a Mary Engelbreit picture book is like wrapping yourself in a flannel blanket fresh from the dryer and snuggling into the down-filled cushions of Pottery Barn’s Charleston sofa with a cup of hot cocoa and marshmallows on a bitterly cold day. It’s certainly the feeling I got when reading the award-winning author’s newest release: A Merry Little Christmas: Celebrate from A to Z. The heartwarming tale follows little Gregory Mouse as he navigates his way through an alphabet of Christmas favorites. My six-year-old immediately skipped to the “T” page since her name begins with the 20th letter of the … Continue reading

Avoid Getting Scammed When Looking For Home-Based Work

If you are considering working from home and you are in the process of researching home-based business opportunities, please be aware that there are many unscrupulous folks out there that are trying to rip you off. You? Yes, you. The mother that wants to stay home with her child yet needs to earn some income to help the family pay the bills. The person who is already feeling down on their luck because they lost their job and cannot find another one. The person that feels trapped in a dead-end job and wants to become their own boss, because they … Continue reading

Primary Party

The race is on in Wisconsin. It’s primary election day and the “Dairy State” is expecting a record number of voters at the polls. The results of today’s primary are being watched very carefully, with Wisconsin seen as a key state in the 2012 presidential race. Wisconsin is not the only state in the country hosting primary elections. A dozen states are urging voters to cast their votes in anticipation of November’s general election. Whether you voted or not, today is a great day to celebrate being an American. If you are looking for ways to commemorate this patriotic day, … Continue reading

Start Looking for Those Games and Puzzles

Now is the time to take a look at the games and puzzles that you may like to buy for the holiday season or for upcoming birthdays. This is because starting now through the beginning of November, you should get the greatest bargains when you purchase certain toys. The stores are trying to get a jump start on the holiday season, so they are starting to test the waters with certain toys. You may find some particular character toys being testing in promotion, but you will really clean up if you focus mostly on the board games and the puzzles. … Continue reading

Primary Time: Praising Children

As parents it is critical that we take the time to praise our children. Children in Primary are especially responsive to this type of praise. Children will begin to behave so that they can receive praise and hugs for their good behavior. A great deal of children’s behavior is focused on bringing attention to themselves. Children who misbehave constantly want the attention that this brings to them. By giving positive attention and praise you can help to limit negative behavior. Have you ever had a day where you step back and look at the things you have said to your … Continue reading

Ask a Homeschooling Blogger: Why Are You So Against Government Involvement? Part 3

Note: As I have explained in my first blog this morning, I have received an e-mail that I think articulates the opinions of many who do not home school and don’t understand why those of us who do might see government intervention as a bad thing. I generally ignore these letters because they are often riddled with poor language and have clearly not been thought out. For the original question in part, please see the first blog. This is a continuation of my response. Monies to Fund My Homeschool I suspect my blogs on why tax credits are bad for … Continue reading
