Laziness- part 6- in Workby Dale Harcombe | More from this Blogger 25 Mar 2008 03:47 PM Today as we near the end of my blogs relating to laziness, I want you to stop and think about your attitude to work. Do you see it as a chore and do just enough work so you don't get fired but you know you are not working to your full capabilities? Do you slack off with extra long lunch hours and tea breaks or work in a slipshod manner and not giving of your best? Do you waste your bosses' time with phone calls and conversations not related to work? Or maybe you belong to the other extreme and remain distant from others in your workplace and do not consider your boss, workmates, employees, as people worthy of time spent getting to know them. Over the next two blogs I'm going to look at what the bible has to say about work. God was involved in a great work. Only after He finished, did He stop to rest, Genesis 2:2. God gave work for the people He made Genesis 2:15, so God saw it as a positive thing. Of course, after the fall, attitudes changed, as work became no longer so pleasurable God decreed six days in which to work and one to rest and praise Him, Exodus 23:12. In Psalm 90:16-17, Moses ask God to reveal His work to His servants and that God then 'confirm' for them the work of their hands. Have you sought God's guidance and blessing upon your sphere of work? Maybe God wants you to be working at something else other than what you are currently doing. Proverbs 14:23 tells us 'in all labor (or work) there is a profit but mere talk leads only to poverty.' And Proverbs 6:6 points us to the example of the ant that works hard to achieve its aims. The Bible warns against being slack in work, Proverbs 18:9. Note the strong criticism this verse and Proverbs 21:25 give, of the one who refuses to work. Contrast this with the woman praised as a good wife in Proverbs 31:10-27, for the way she goes about her work. Which of these examples are you most like?
