Judging by Appearancesby Dale Harcombe | More from this Blogger 16 Apr 2009 04:50 PM
This is a woman who has been victimized and bullied since childhood. It's great to see someone overcome the odds and be courageous enough to stand up on stage and prove the critics wrong! But when you think about it are those judges and that audience that much different to the rest of us? Don't we judge by appearances all the time? When someone comes into our church who is dressed differently or does not fit the image, don't we judge them. Is your church a welcoming church or one where you talk to only those you known? Are you prepared to go out of your way and out your own comfort aside to welcome newcomers and outcasts? That's what we should be like. That's what our Savior was like. And didn't he cop criticism for it! From the Pharisees and religious leaders who want to keep everything as it was, Matthew 9:10-13. They didn't want change in their religion, in their ways of doing things, Mark 7:1-16. We can be like that in our churches too. We like things the way they are. We don't want them changed. But sometimes newcomers can bring change and it's a good and positive thing. W need to be open to what God wants to teach us through those He brings through the doors of our church and make them welcome. We might just be surprised as the judges in Britain's Got Talent about what we might find when that person opens their mouth. Related blogs When Should You Leave a Church?
