Sin City Spring Break

I was in high school when MTV debuted its first-ever foray into spring break mayhem complete with beer-bonging and half-naked college coeds dangling from stripper poles on Daytona Beach. In the 25 years since, the cable network has visited practically every spring break hot spot from Mexico to the Caribbean. This year MTV decided to bring its seasonal debauchery to Las Vegas where it would go largely unnoticed by the usual acts of hedonism that take place there. Sin City survived MTV’s madness which included five days of live concerts, wet t-shirt contests, boozing and babe oogling. The party just … Continue reading

Gambling and Marriage

I read something the other day which astounded me. Acceding to reports Australians spend $60 a week on lottery and lotto tickets. I wonder if it is any different in USA. Now, I don’t know about you but I can’t imagine taking that sort of amount out of our budget every week and still trying to get by. Yes, I know the logic is someone has to win it. That’s the sort of thinking that gets people sucked into buying tickets they can’t afford and putting money through slot machines in the hope of pulling of the jackpot. I’ve been … Continue reading

Improve Your Social Life, Improve Your Business

This may seem like a strange idea—after all, many of us think that we have to give up fun and socializing in order to focus on our businesses. Unless you do a rather solitary job (like writing, for example, and I would argue that a hearty social life improves that work too), getting out, having fun, meeting people and socializing can have a positive influence on your home business. I am differentiating here from networking. Networking seems to have as its goal making more business contacts and “schmoozing” with a focus on business and work. Improving your social activities should … Continue reading

Are Bad Habits Hurting Your Home Business?

Ah, those bad habits! While we may not realize what some of our not-so-savory habits are, we may very well have some self-awareness around our other bad habits. Sometimes bad habits aren’t much more than an annoyance, BUT, what should you do when your bad habits are actually hurting your home business? The first step, of course, is a little self-evaluation regarding what exactly your bad habits might be–we’ve talked about procrastination here, but what about other habits like smoking, online gambling, poor time management, or gossiping? One could argue that these habits don’t seem to have a direct connection … Continue reading

Is Gambling a Sin?

Depending on who you talk with, you will probably get a different answer as to gambling being a sin or not. Many Christians argue that gambling is not condemned in the Bible and therefore find justification in their actions. I ask you to come to your own conclusion on this matter based on what the Bible has to say. So what is gambling anyway? Is it a hopeful investment strategy? Is it means of entertainment? Is it an addiction? Depending on which reply you’ve given, it may lead to your answer. 1. Gambling as a hopeful investment strategy: The Bible … Continue reading

Internet woes (part 1): Online gambling and video games

Often, we when think of getting in trouble on the Internet, we think of pornography or online chat rooms that may lead to infidelity or just plain uneasy situations. There are, however, some other things happening on the Internet that don’t get as much press time, but can cause harsh personal and family troubles. Part one of a three part series will discuss two of the most prevalent: online gambling and online video game playing (see part two for a few more). ● Online gambling. It seems like online Poker is everywhere and accessible to everyone. What used to be … Continue reading

Morality in America

Do you really want to know what you are dealing with, when it comes to raising children today? Have you considered the morality of America…where we came from, where we are at and where we are heading? A Gallup poll was recently conducted on “Values & Beliefs” in America. The findings will help you better understand just what you are up against when it comes to the raising of your children. This isn’t meant as a way to make judgments but simply to enlighten parents. And hopefully with this enlightenment, there will be conversations with your children about what you … Continue reading

Tobey Maguire Folds

Celebrities love poker. Unfortunately, it is costing some more than they anticipated. It wasn’t their playing; it was who they were playing with. The celebs had started playing high-stakes underground poker with hedge fund operator Bradley Ruderman. The “hedge fund” phrase should throw up a red flag to anyone who’s been following the news the last few years. Like others, Ruderman was bilking investors out of their hard earned bucks. He was arrested by the FBI in 2009 for running a Ponzi scheme, which cost his investors about $44 million. Why did people invest with Ruderman? He was promising as … Continue reading

Gibson Guitar Raided by Feds

Lately, the Feds have been raiding several businesses in the local town of Millington, Tennessee. I haven’t really been paying attention, but I think it was due to some illegal gambling. So the other day, I heard something about the Feds raiding somewhere in Memphis and I sort of ignored it until I heard it was the Gibson Guitar company. I couldn’t imagine what the Feds were doing raiding a guitar company unless it had something to do with the gambling, but no, it was something completely different. Both the Memphis and Nashville offices were raided because agents from the … Continue reading

Go Digital

Scrapbooking is not a cheap hobby. I suppose it’s less expensive than gambling, but let’s face it; if you are an avid scrapper you can bleed through a ton of cash trying to preserve your favorite memories during the course of a year. Dealing with hefty scrapbooking bills is one of the reasons my best friend decided to go digital. Digital scrapbooking is the wave of the future, and believe it or not, it can be quite economical if you play your cards right. The biggest benefit when it comes to digital scrapbooking can be summed up in one word: … Continue reading
