How Well do YOU Know the Bible?

A recent survey found that mormons know more about the Bible than catholics, or other protestant religions. Interesting huh? This survey also found that atheists and agnostics know more about major world religions than those of other faiths. Is this surprising? I’m not sure if it is, but I do find it very interesting. Many times, our church is accused of not even believing in the Bible at all. But, we are encouraged as members of the church to read, and know all works of scripture. Books that we believe are scripture include both the Bible and the Book of … Continue reading

One of the Best Things You Can Do

Another thing to talk about and one of the best things you can do for your marriage is study the bible together. As a start, I suggest getting a concordance and looking up husbands, wives and marriage and finding out what God has to say on these subjects. It will give you a clear picture of the way marriage should be. But don’t stop here. Make it a regular habit to study the bible and pray together. Meet with other married couples who are studying the same passages of scripture you are. It’s a great way of building enduring friendships, … Continue reading

Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Sometimes we learn things from a totally unrelated topic that can be applied to marriage. One that I encountered recently was ‘don’t beat yourself up over past mistakes and things you can’t change.’ We all have those moments in our marriage we regret, where we wish we’d never said or done what we did. But once we have admitted our fault to our spouse and resolved to try and not do it again, then it is time to move on. Sadly many of us, women in particular, keep harking back and going on over the experience. Beating ourselves up like … Continue reading

Ever Feel You Don’t Get it Right?

Sorry everyone, the days got away from me which is why my post for this blog didn’t go up yesterday. But in God’s timing even that worked out, because I want to share something that came up last night at bible study. Our home group has been studying Mark’s gospel. One of the things that struck me is the attitudes of the disciples. They are such an encouragement to those of us who struggle in our Christian life, which I assume is not just me but most of us. Even though they had Jesus right there with them and they … Continue reading

Does it Matter if You Don’t Go to Church and WorshipTogether?

How important is it in marriage to attend the same church and worship together? Does it matter if you are different denominations or go to different churches? Obviously the problem of different churches or denominations is not insurmountable but it certainly is something that needs to be taken into consideration and discussed before marriage. In many churches the number of women who attend far outweighs that of men. This causes an imbalance in churches. In a marriage situation this means that the husband is not taking the spiritual leadership role he should. Wives who go to church when the husband … Continue reading

Scripture Study Rut?

Scripture study is an essential part of gaining a testimony of the gospel. It is also important to do so that you can continue to strengthen your testimony through gospel study. However, most people go through times of really good personal scripture study and times when the study is either not happening or is not meaningful. Sometimes you get in a rut, and it can be difficult to break out of it. If you are stuck in a scripture study rut, try changing up the way that you read the scriptures. For example if you read a few chapters a … Continue reading

What Can I Do? – Part 2

Yesterday we looked at the importance of prayer in helping the spread of the gospel message throughout the world and in certain areas in particular. What else can we do to help? If your church has a link missionary it supports, get their newsletter and prayer points. As well as praying for their needs write them a letter or email letting them know you are praying for them and finding out more of their ministry. It is easier to pray and support people when they are more than just a name. So get to know the people involved in the … Continue reading

What Can I Do? – Part 1

So you and I may have never felt God’s call to go overseas. That doesn’t mean we can sit back and do nothing. Over the next couple of days I’m going to suggest ways you can help the spread of the gospel in other lands. First and most important, pray for those who are involved in this strategic work. Nothing of lasting value will be accomplished in the world without prayer. Which means firstly we need to know of the specific needs of mission organizations. So you might want to sign up for a newsletter from one for the organizations … Continue reading

Scripture Study: 1 Nephi 14:18-30

Nephi, deep in vision with the angel of the Lord, is being shown the end times of the world and the fate of his descendants. He also sees John the Revelator and learns of his role in warning us about the signs of the second coming. 18. And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me, saying: Look! 19. And I looked and beheld a man, and he was dressed in a white robe. 20. And the angel said unto me: Behold one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 21. Behold, he shall see and write the … Continue reading
