Thanks To A Friend

There are some benefits that joining Face Book that you may not think about. When you think of Face Book you think about people reconnecting with old loves and old friends but you don’t think about getting incredible support in your journey through cancer. I have found that cancer has touched a great deal of lives in my old hometown of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. There are many of my former classmates that have battled cancer. It was surprising to me to see all the people that have either battled cancer themselves or a loved one of theirs did. It was … Continue reading

Words You Should Never Say to a Teen

There are some things that you should never say to a teen. They are statements like, “Hold on.” “We’ll talk later.” “Just give me a few minutes” and the list goes on. What exactly am I talking about? When your teen is ready to talk, you better be ready to listen. This isn’t an issue of who is in charge; this is an issue of being available at the moment your teen is ready to talk. Because let’s face it, teens aren’t always ready to do this. You sometimes lose valuable moments and meaningful conversations when you don’t stop what … Continue reading

Kelle Hampton’s Beautiful Blog

Kelle Hampton is a talented photographer and blogger, and the words and photographs that appear on her blog have attracted the attention of so many people. Her photographs are stunningly beautiful, and would not be out of place on the pages of a parenting magazine, or in an art gallery. Her words are honest, and come from her heart, even when it would be easier to sugar coat what she is trying to say. Together, the words and photos tell the story of what life is like as a mother of two beautiful daughters, one of whom happens to have … Continue reading

Three Little Words

What three words would you use to describe yourself? Take a moment to write them down. What three words would your husband or partner use to describe you? If you don’t know, ask. I did. Maybe they won’t be the ones you expect. This came about after reading a recent interview with a fellow writer. Donna Shepherd was asked three words to describe herself and then how would other describe her? It made me stop and think about there words to describe myself. Here are my three words: Committed, (to God, to my husband and family, to friends, to writing) … Continue reading

Sharing the News with an Infertile Friend

With the rising infertility rates, it is likely that most pregnant women will have a friend or family member who is going through infertility. You may feel guilty, nervous or have reservations about sharing the news and causing your friend pain. Knowing all she’s been through to have a baby, you don’t want to cause her any more pain. I’ve been on both sides of his issue, and it isn’t fun from either position. The first six years of our marriage were spent trying to have a family. Over those years, it felt like most of the people we knew … Continue reading

Honest Words from a Friend

Yesterday we looked at adverse effects of gossip on a friendship. To have one’s confidences shared with others amounts to nothing less than betrayal. It hurts when a friend betrays us. Whether in word or actions King David knew betrayal by a friend. Psalm 41:9 echoes his despair at that betrayal. Jesus also knew the pain of being betrayed by a friend, John 13:8, Matthew 26:48-50. Jesus told his disciples and he tells usthat we are friends if we do what He commands John 15:14. It made me think that Jesus must feel betrayed again each time we choose to … Continue reading

Friendship Theme – My Personal Album Day Eight Quotes and Poems

Since my Friendship Theme Album is finally complete, I thought I’d share some awesome friendship quotes and poems I found to include in my album. These would be great on your layouts, or even in cards you create and personalize. Quotes: “True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost.” – Charles Caleb Colton “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” – Anais Nin “My friends are my estate.” – Emily … Continue reading

Signing Part II

As parents my husband and I wanted to help our infant son to communicate with us what he needed and wanted.  Wanting to avoid at least some of the frustrations that come with trying to communicate with an infant (sometimes trying to interpret crying fits is futile), we started using sign language with our son when he was five months old.   After five months of signing with him, he finally started signing himself.  The first word he signed was “milk,” and lots of words followed. He started to sign “fan” and “up” and “more” and “all done” and “yogurt” and … Continue reading

Work-a-Holic Day

According to “Holiday Insights,” July 5 is “Work-a-Holic Day.” Perhaps as someone who runs a home-based business, you can relate very well to this. One of the ways they define a work-a-holic is someone who is working during the 4th of July weekend, works because it is fun, because you want to (not because you need to), works on the weekends and it’s the last thing you think about before you go to sleep. So how do you fare? Do your answers suggest that you could very well be a work-a-holic? I have to admit, that I guess I am. … Continue reading
