Bringing Your Spouse to Christ

A friend of mine shared her struggles with me of trying to help her husband desire a relationship with Jesus. They met during a time neither of them knew the Lord; while they’d been using illegal drugs. My friend worked to stay grounded in church upon receiving Christ and became over eager to convert her husband. This seemed to cause him to resist her. He thought she’d really lost it. The more she backed off the more open he was to supporting her (as he saw it) by going to Easter and Christmas services. My husband was not a believer … Continue reading

My Thoughts on Development and Maintenance of Marriage

This blog was inspired by a question posed from a poster on Families.com’s forum. Bryan was the first guy I didn’t feel like I had to impress. Prior to meeting him I’d come to the realization that at 16 I didn’t need a boyfriend—though one would be nice if he were willing to accept me for who I was. Even at just 16 I’d come to realize what I wanted and needed out of a relationship was not going to come easy at my age. Bryan really wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time either. So when we met, … Continue reading

No Longer Attracted to Your Spouse?

Sex is no doubt a very important part of marriage; but it is just that—a part. My hope too is that you are married to your very best friend and meant every single word of your marriage … Continue reading

Marrying Your Best Friend

I recall helping an older lady bring groceries out to her car in the parking lot of our neighborhood supermarket I’d been working at. I was chit-chatting with her and I made mention of my upcoming wedding date. She was full of joy for me sharing that she and her husband had been married over 50 years. She volunteered that their secret to 50 years of happiness together was that they were each other’s best friend. I grew up having a best friend that I still love and keep contact with to this day. I know this lady was talking … Continue reading

Marriage Series: Intro

I have been eager to write on marriage because there is so much of a correlation between marriage to our spouse and the covenant between us and God as born again believers. In the similar way God instituted parental roles to give us a better understanding of our relationship with Him, I believe marriage shows us a bond of what is supposed to be the deepest commitment. In the Bible, the church is likened to the bride of Christ. Ephesians chapter 5 goes into this with instruction of how we are to be toward our spouse. 2 Corinthians 11:2 Paul … Continue reading
