Getting a Baby vs. Parenting a Child

After my first adoption orientation meeting, I overheard a fellow attendee talking to the counselor. He was trying to weigh the pros and cons of large versus small agencies, but what struck me was his statement, “Our goal is to get a baby. So maybe it is more to our advantage that…” I was surprised to hear him put his objective so bluntly, but perhaps the counselor was not so surprised. I never mentioned to her that I had overheard this statement, but in a later interview with me she remarked, “You know, so many people talk about getting a … Continue reading

Dispensations of the Bible

A dispensation in the Bible is a period of time in which God dealt/deals with man a certain way. There are 8 dispensations that are commonly agreed between many Christian scholars. Some scholars who do not believe in a rapture of the Christian church or in a literal millennial reign, may only adhere to 7 dispensations. The 7th and 8th dispensation might be combined as the “Dispensation of Christ’s Reign.” Under each dispensation there seems to be a means of salvation for that time: 1. The Prayer of Jabez: In Conclusion

Biblical Encouragement for Those in Waiting

The holiday times were by far the most difficult for me to bear while waiting for our boys. I know there are others that can relate to the longing feeling around this time as well. To be honest, I’m not sure how I would have sustained sanity without my faith in Christ and His ability during the dark period in my life of waiting to be a mother. Perhaps the most inspirational book of the Bible for me during this time was the Book of Psalms. David committed sins beyond what most of us have, was loved by God and … Continue reading

Matt and Maddie Shep make a very cute couple. Their names are even cute. But their lives are far from cute – in fact, they are both miserable. Married for four years, they want to have a baby, but nothing has worked. Years ago Maddie had one ovary removed for medical reasons, and she knew it would be hard to have a child, but she never dreamed it would be this hard. The disappointment, the emotional strain, and the pressure to conceive are tearing her marriage apart. It seems that all she and Matt can do is talk about why … Continue reading
