The Role of Timing

As much as I sometimes hate to admit it, there is something to be said for timing–things happening at just the right time vs. trying to force things to happen when the timing just isn’t right. As single parents, we can ease our workload and our stress load some by taking into account the role that timing can play in our lives. I wrestle with the whole concept of timing myself–it is hard getting older and feeling as though time is starting to slip away and that I need to “get a move on” and still understand that there is … Continue reading

Balancing the Big Picture with the Daily Details

There is no getting around the fact that parenthood and family life is full of daily details—in fact, one could argue that when it comes to raising children it can seem like it is “all in the details.” BUT, being able to get away from the details and daily concerns once in a while and see the “big picture” can be a parent’s road to sanity… Does this really matter in the BIG PICTURE? If I don’t mop the kitchen floor today or correct my child every single time he has his elbows on the table during meal time is … Continue reading

Are You A Real Believer?

What is a real believer to you? Is it someone who believes that Jesus the messiah has indeed come? Is it someone who believes that God can answer prayers and perform miracles in people’s lives? James 2:19, “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” Even Satan knows that Jesus is Lord. Why else would the name of Jesus Christ, our loving God, be used in cursing so much? There is power in Jesus. Satan hates this fact and has worked to remove the mention of Jesus in our society except while promoting … Continue reading

Why My Beliefs Matter

This is the second part based on a small-group series I’m working on called Values that Last. Last week’s blog was on Choosing My Standard, and this week I’ll be sharing on why our beliefs matter. How we view our world is so important because our lives are based around perception. If we believe what the Bible says to be truth, then likely (hopefully) we’ll conform to the teachings of the Word. Likewise, if we perceive life to be about feeling good, we will likely shape our ways around things that make us feel good. Views on life are critical … Continue reading

Hannah’s Cry, My Cry

Isaac’s wife Rebekah, who was barren, cried out for a child and God gave her 2 boys, Esau and Jacob (Genesis 25:21-25). Jacob’s wife Rachel was barren, cried out to God and He gave her Joseph (Genesis 30:22). In 1 Samuel chapter one, you can read about Hannah’s story. Hannah’s plea to God was so much like mine, Hannah wept in anguish, didn’t want to eat, had a bitter soul, pleaded with God, complained, and was grief stricken… (1 Samuel 1:7-20). I too poured my heart out to God. I didn’t care if a baby came from my womb or … Continue reading

Christian Rock Music

There are those out there who believe Christian Rock music is too worldly and some that even believe that the beat is Satan driven. I’d like to share with you why I feel differently. When I was younger, I was really into rageful and sometimes depressing rock music. There are 2 main things that drew me into it; the beat and the lyrics. I was drawn into the music because I could relate with many of the lyrics. The beat of the music brought out the emphasis and passion in how I felt. In hind sight, I can see it … Continue reading

Consulting With God First

Each day gives a new series of choices. We can come to decisions based on past experiences of our own or others’, we can weigh out the pros and cons of different choices, and we can go with our gut. Most of the daily decisions don’t necessarily have lasting impacts on our lives. For example; will we eat now or in an hour? Will we have Italian food or Mexican food? Will I wear the red dress or the black dress (though if you are concerned about modesty, maybe you should take further consideration)? I’m not convinced that God is … Continue reading
