Bee Movie (2007)

“Bee Movie” is a recent cartoon released by Dreamworks and written by Jerry Seinfeld. I watched it with my children last night and we enjoyed it. Barry is a young bee who has just graduated from college. The lifespan of a bee being somewhat short, his entire college career lasted three days, but his graduation is still a big deal. He can now choose which job he wants out of all those offered in the hive. He can stir honey. He can sweep the floors. He can clean the bathrooms. Whatever job he takes, he will do it the rest … Continue reading

Music and Lyrics (2007)

“Music and Lyrics” stars Hugh Grant as Alex Fletcher, formerly of the pop band accurately named “Pop!” The band was a cross between Wham and Tears for Fears, and was wildly popular in the eighties. But Alex’s partner left for greener pastures, leaving Alex to wonder if all his glory days were in the past. His career starts to take a turn for the better when his manager (Brad Garrett) tells him that teen sensation Cora wants to meet him. She’s a big fan of his and wants him to write her new song. It must contain the line, “finding … Continue reading

Britney Spears—2008 Starts Off Less Than Great

So much for a new year, a clean slate, and a fresh start… Popwreck Britney Spears entered 2008 as pathetically as she exited 2007… and things don’t look as if they will be improving any time soon. For starters, yesterday Ms. Meltdown’s latest lawyer, Sorrell Trope, filed a court document asking a judge to remove him from Spears’ ongoing custody case with ex-husband Kevin Federline. “There has been a breakdown in communications between (Spears) and Trope & Trope (law firm) making further representation of her interests impossible,” says the document. Basically, Trope quit. Though an attorney cannot simply withdraw from … Continue reading

Ah, the New Year. Fresh starts, new beginnings, and resolutions. What’s yours? Lose weight? Get organized? Spend more time with your loved ones? With the second week of the New Year drawing to a close and the third week about to begin, how are those resolutions shaping up? Are you sticking to them? If the answer is, “No,” or “Just barely,” take heart. But never … Continue reading

Week in Review: Fresh Starts to Who’s Happy

This week I touched on five topics: Fresh starts for your new year, finding moderation in your Christian walk, the execution of Saddam Husain, having faith in God, acknowledging Christians are not perfect and I also shared information gathered from a study regarding the happiest people in the United States. In Fresh Starts for 2007, I looked at the significance the Bible puts on the number seven. Seven seems to represent completion and makes way for fresh new starts. In Finding Moderation, I wanted to bring a point across that we can’t serve God too much, but we can get … Continue reading

Fresh Starts for 2007

Now that the year 2007 is here, why not consider it to be modivation for a fresh new start in your life? Regardless of where you are in your Christian walk–even if you have never even taken that first step, a new year is here and it’s an opportunity for change and growth. The number seven throughout the Bible seems to represent completion. While researching Bible passages that contained “seven” in them, I found well over 500! Here are only some of many examples: The seventh day (the Sabbath) was blessed and sanctified by God. (Genesis 2:3) Seven of every … Continue reading

Realizing My Body Is a Temple

In my effort to be healthy and look healthy to achieve the new me before the end of the year, I realized I had a lot of house cleaning to do—and I’m not talking about my stick built house, I’m talking about my body. I’ve had to become really honest with myself and begin to view myself differently than I have been. I need to view my body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. My body is mine on loan and I really need to be taking better care of it. “Or do you not know that your body … Continue reading

God’s Will: On the Road of Life

While on the telephone with my aunt, she shared with me an inspirational passage from a book she’s been reading from Karen Kingsbury’s Redemption series called Reunion. The character paints this picture of turning our will over to God like being a passenger in a car and allowing God to drive. Though we might not know whether He’ll go left or right, we know in the end we’ll arrive at our destination if we let him drive. I was encouraged by the excerpt she read since it helped me put perspective on what it means to allow the will of … Continue reading

The Proverbs 31 Woman: The Virtuous Wife

A friend of mine did a Bible study on the Proverbs 31 woman where she was asked to apply the scripture to her own life. As per her suggestion, I too would like to do this. I would also like to encourage other woman to look at the example set forth in the Bible of The Virtuous Wife and apply it to your lives as well: The Virtuous Wife 10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. … Continue reading

Becoming the Woman I Want To Be

I have this image of a “perfect” woman in my mind. She is much like the Proverbs 31 woman. I see her as a woman who is able to balance attention to her husband, each child, her home, her community activities, and all while making time for God. I see her handling all these things with great poise, grace and humility. I’ve seen aspects of this “ideal” woman in many whom I admire. If only I could bottle up their different attributes and make them my own… I have a mental list of all the things I would like to … Continue reading
