Faith and Persistence Bring Results

Faith and persistence what place do they have in your life? Faith and persistence need to go to hand in hand, as we see when we look at Mark 2:1-12 1. The people in Capernaum heard about Jesus and so they gathered eagerly to hear what He had to say to them, verse 1,2. How eager are we to meet with Him? Are you meeting with Him in your own quiet time as well as gathering with other people on a regular basis to learn more of Him? Are you listening for what He has to say to you through … Continue reading

Challenges Are Good For Us

Challenges in the Christian life can be good for us. Why? Because we know if the challenge is not something we would normally feel comfortable taking on and doing, then the only way to get accomplish it victoriously is to rely on God. The harder the challenge, the more we need to depend on God and that is always a good thing. Too often when faced with a challenge we can allow difficulties or problems to distract us and cause us to give up. One of the things we can allow to affect us is past failures. Recently I went … Continue reading

Living The Christian Life In The Public Eye.

Living the Christian life in today’s world is never easy. It is even harder for celebrities or sportsmen and sportswomen in the public eye. I’m sure this is true for Christian athletes training and preparing for the Olympic Games. One such person is Allyson Felix. Allyson is the daughter of an ordained minister. Being the child of a minister often puts extra pressures of their offspring as friends of ours can testify. People sometimes seem to judge those whose parents are in ministry more harshly. The pressure to decide it’s all too hard living the Christian life and competing must … Continue reading

Putting It Into Practice – part 3

Yesterday, during my quiet time, I was encouraged after praying for healing and strength for a dear friend and his wife, to come across this line in ‘Streams in the Desert.’ It said ‘Perseverance in prayer is necessary to prevalence in prayer.’ In the passage for the day the point was made, that it is by praying we learn how to pray more effectively. In other words it comes back again to putting it into practice. When I conduct writing workshops I often tell my students it’s no good saying they want to write, or reading about writing, or even … Continue reading

How is Your Patience?

I suspect many of us struggle with impatience – whether it is impatience with our husband or wife, with family members or even impatience with God. On Wednesday the Sing Australia choir I belong to, went to sing at a nursing home, When I arrived fifteen minutes before the time we were due to start, a large number of people were already assembled and waiting in the hall. Our pianist had arrived and was running through a few of the songs we were to sing. This was not enough for one elderly lady. She was ready and keen for the … Continue reading

Hope For The Hopeless – Part 2

Are you facing a seemingly hopeless situation? Is Jesus asking you to believe the impossible? In the last blog we saw Jesus stop and take time for the individual – the woman with the issue of blood. Jairus could have been wishing Jesus would hurry up and get on with it. That he would get to his daughter and not waste precious time with this woman. It would have been an understandable reaction. Do you chafe and fret when Jesus doesn’t act in the time frame or manner you would like? If Jairus did react like this, we are not … Continue reading

Where Do You Fit?

Right back in New Testament time, people responded to Jesus in different ways. They still do today. As we look at Mark 3:7-19, where do you see yourself? 1. The crowd followed Jesus not because of who he was but what he could do for them, verses 7-10. Why do you and I follow Jesus? 2. The evil spirits recognized Jesus for who He was – the Son of God, verse 11 but the crowd saw Him only as a miracle worker. Do you recognize and acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God but still continue in evil and refuse … Continue reading

Lessons From Levi

Have you ever found when you read something in God’s Word, that He gives you an opportunity to put into practice what you have read? This happened to me after I read about the friends of the paralytic man. I wrote my last blog, a href=”http://christian.families.com/blog/faith-and-persistence-bring-results”>Faith and Persistence Brings Results days ago but experienced major troubles when attempting to post it. Then today while reading,Streams in the Desert by Mrs. C.E. Cowman which I’ve been using this year as part of my morning devotional time, the reading talked about not letting obstacles depress and put us off. It echoed what … Continue reading
