FHE with Small Children-Strengthening our Family

I love when simple family home evenings make the best ones. That is my goal by sharing this FHE with Small Children series as often as possible. This past Monday night, we had a family home evening where my kids really listened, the lesson was short, and everyone got to participate. We started out talking about our own family. I asked my kids the following questions: Who is in our family? Do you think we have a happy family? Do we want to make our family stronger? I then told them about The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Since … Continue reading

Home Blog Month in Review: October

As I sit here looking out my window at the backyard, the birds are hovering in the pine tree against a strong wind and steady rain. The temperature is chilly today, and the calendar reminds me that we have left October behind. October 1st Buy a Home for $1.75 It seems that the housing crisis has made some interesting news lately. Home Month in Review: September 2008 Has the weather turned cooler now that September has passed? Pretty soon, it will be time to get that heat turned back on! Meanwhile, check out all of the articles that were posted … Continue reading

What’s Your Personal Love Myth?

From ancient times, myths and fairy tales have contained more spiritual truth in one telling than we can even process, which is why the soul keeps asking to have them told once again. ~-From the essay “Mythical Woman” in Sarah Ban Breathnach’s Romancing the Ordinary-~ The past week has seen a lot of discussion about romantic movies here in the Marriage Blog. It all started when Dale shared some of her picks for romantic favorites, then continued with a few more in part two. Next it was my turn to chime in with a list of 52 romantic movies you … Continue reading

More Love Myths

My last article had begun describing the top five myths about love in society. There are many opinions about love and relationships out there in our society. Some of the information and opinions may be helpful but others are simply myths. The first three myths were listed and discussed in the previous article. There are two more myths that many believe about love that simply are not true. Those two myths are discussed below. 4. If you have true love nothing else matters. Many believe that if they are in love then all in the world will be right or … Continue reading

Treatment of Special Items when Conquering Clutter

Mary Ann really pegged it when she coined the term “I can’t get rid of that syndrome.” It’s something I think everyone can relate to at some point in time. There are just things in our lives that we hold onto for one reason or another. However, I’ve learned a few things about such items that I’d like to share. Now, Mary Ann has some great advice on how to treat special items, such as ways to preserve parts of them to keep the memory, or donating them to help someone else. She’ll have even more helpful hints soon. I’m … Continue reading

Does Love Conquer All?

My husband and I are not huge movie goers but yesterday we took ourselves off to the movies to see ‘Enchanted.’ And we were! What a fun movie with lots of laughs. I suspect it was a Disney film doing a send up of Disney animated films. Given the G rating I expected there would be lots of children present and there were parents and children but also a number of adults like us in couples or on their own and teenage boys in front of us. Judging by the reaction from the audience, there was not a person there … Continue reading

How To Frugally Live Through Lifestyle Changes

There are dozens of ways that our lives change daily, but sometimes major events occur and our lifestyle changes drastically. This can really put a damper on our budget if we have been living that way for awhile. There are ways to help conquer the problems that we face and help us continue to live more frugally. Recently I found myself a homeschooling parent again. I absolutely love homeschooling, so while it is a major life change, it is not something I regret at all. It did however, require some altering in our budget and our spending habits, to ensure … Continue reading

Mission Possible: I Love Junk Food

I do. I love potato chips and cookies and my hand seems to have a mind of its own whenever we are near cookies and junk food. My mind says no but my hand reaches into the cookie box and inserts the cookie in my mouth. I really can’t blame my mouth, teeth, tongue or digestive tracts. They are mere bystanders in the crime! This weekend really was not my best weekend ever. In fact some of my lose clothes seem tight. I almost hated to post this because it’s so NOT inspirational. I had a horribly busy weekend in … Continue reading

Conquering The Clutter… Just In Time For The Holidays

Are your days filled with scrubbing, wiping, mopping, vacuuming and conquering every clutter-filled corner of your home. If you answered, “yes” then… you’re hired! Kidding aside, by reading my previous blogs you realize that cleaning doesn’t come naturally to me. It’s not that I don’t love a clean and organized home, it’s just that I really have to work at keeping it that way. The analogy I like to use is this: some people are naturally smart. They never crack a book open to study, yet ace a math quiz as if they wrote themselves. Conversely, I need to work … Continue reading

Cedar Point and Your Preschooler

Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio,  is normally associated with heart pumping rides and the thrill of going upside down at 70 miles an hour only to endure a drop that makes the hair on your arms stand on end.  That is hardly the experience you want your preschooler to endure.  It may surprise you to learn that Cedar Point is not only fun for adults and older kids but for preschoolers as well.  It is one of the best family fun parks around! Top Seven Things to Love About Cedar Point for Preschoolers My mini thrill seeker spent her … Continue reading
