Displaying Memory Verses for Children

I just recently started teaching a children's Bible class on Sunday mornings. When I'm teaching I'm always thinking of different ways to help the kids learn their memory verse for the week. I try to think of ways that the child can display the memory verse all week long in a place that they see every day. Here are a couple of different ideas that I have thought about using.

Memory Verse Magnet

This is a very simplistic craft, but it definitely puts the memory verse in a location where the child (and hopefully other members of the family) will see it. After choosing a memory verse for your child, have your child write the memory verse on some type of paper like construction paper or even an index card. Then apply a magnet to the back of the paper and put it on the refrigerator (at your child's eye level, of course!). You can buy magnets in the crafting sections of stores which have sticky tape on the back which help to make this project very quick, easy, and neat.

Memory Verse Door Hanger

This craft is a little more complex than the memory verse magnet. Using a sturdy paper (like cardstock) cut out a door hanger. The door hanger could be in any shape you want (not just the traditional rectangle pattern you normally see). Once again after choosing a memory verse for your child, have your child write the memory verse on the door hanger. You could use a variety of different materials to make the door hanger, but I prefer paper. For a slightly different take on this idea, you can now buy pre-made door hangers that have a dry erase board surface on them. Each week you could have your child write a different memory verse on the door hanger. This might be a good alternative for older children.

For either of these projects you can even have your child decorate the craft but make sure that they do not decorate over the memory verse. Making a point to not draw over the memory verse can help teach your child a respect for the Bible. The focus of these activities is to learn parts of God's Word. While making these projects make sure that your child knows that the memory verse came from the Bible, which is the Word of God.
