Devotions of Truth

What is truth? Does the truth change or does it stay the same? Who determines truth? Is the truth different for everyone? Is the truth different depending on the situation? Do we have to obey or live our lives based upon truth? The questions listed above are just a few of the many types of questions people, including Christians and nonchristians, ask about truth. In fact, many people spend their entire lives searching for truth. For the Christian, it is easy to answer the questions above through a study of God’s Word. The Bible is very clear concerning truth. (As … Continue reading

Devotions of Desire

What do you think of when you hear the word “desire”? Maybe you think of worldly desires. Maybe you think of desires you might have for the future, such as a desire to lose weight or that your children marry a godly spouse. More than likely you do not immediately associate the word with God or the Bible. However, Christians should desire things in the Lord, as well as desire to do certain things in the Lord. Christians should desire some things: Christians should desire to do the will of God. Christians should desire God. Christians should desire wisdom. Christians … Continue reading

Devotions of Commandments

When I was writing the blog “Devotions of Knowledge” it prompted me to consider another topic for discussion in the series, “Devotions of Commandments.” While the word “commandment” often has a negative connotation in the world that is not comparable to the nature of commandments in the Bible. I actually think that studying the commandments of God is a very productive and insightful study (as is in study in the Bible), yet it is often ignored in the general study of the Word of God. In writing this blog, I also want to point out that I am not simply … Continue reading

Devotions of Knowledge

Knowledge is a necessity for any Christian. I know without a doubt that studying the Word of God must be an active part of a Christian’s walk in this life. God has given us His Word that we might know Him. And not only has God given us His Word that we might know Him, but that we might know what He has done, what He will do, and what He expects us to do. It seems like there are a lot of people in the world who say they know about the Word of God. However, if one engages … Continue reading

Introduction: “Devotions of” Series

I want to start a new series entitled “Devotions of . . .” over different topics in the Bible, different Biblical concepts, and different struggles we all deal with in our lives. In this series I want to share with you some key passages in the Bible dealing with the topic at hand. I also plan to share my thoughts on the topic. I will also give you tips on how to do further study on the topic by sharing such things as other relevant words you might look up in a concordance which relate to the topic. While you … Continue reading

Putting It Into Practice – part 3

Yesterday, during my quiet time, I was encouraged after praying for healing and strength for a dear friend and his wife, to come across this line in ‘Streams in the Desert.’ It said ‘Perseverance in prayer is necessary to prevalence in prayer.’ In the passage for the day the point was made, that it is by praying we learn how to pray more effectively. In other words it comes back again to putting it into practice. When I conduct writing workshops I often tell my students it’s no good saying they want to write, or reading about writing, or even … Continue reading

Gather Round’ the Table

I had a conversation with a Proverbs 31 woman this past weekend. She’s 89 years young. She has a picture of herself parasailing, which was taken 3 years ago. She is also quite computer savvy. I started to explain what a blog was and she said, “Oh, I know what a blog is!” She is a woman who has lived an extraordinary life and continues to do so. I will be sharing bits and pieces of our chat for years to come. The part I wanted to share today has to do with the topic Lisa and I have been … Continue reading
