Christian Business Topic: Discerning between Distraction and Opportunity, Part 2

Continuing from yesterday, here are ways to determine if an opportunity is really your chance for advancement. Opportunity: The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines opportunity as a favorable juncture of circumstance or a good chance for advancement or progress. We are always looking for a good chance for advancement. Yet, that’s a gamble sometimes. How do we know when something is a good chance for advancement? The truth is we do not always know for sure. We need to make our best effort to choose wisely. Our time is precious and once spent we can never get it back. How do … Continue reading

Can You Be a Christian and Not Go to Church?

Can you be a Christian and not go to church? It is something I have been thinking about, because I have not been to church for three weeks. However, in my defense I can say it is not by choice. The sprit is willing. Unfortunately the body is not. And I miss it. I miss leading the congregation in song. Thankfully God has provided others to step up in the interim and help out in that way. I miss hearing God’s Word preached and our pastor’s sermons. I miss hearing people praying for each other. It is often during those … Continue reading

Hearts and Hands and Kindergarten Math: Christian Liberty Press

This is a big year for me with regards to homeschooling. One of my daughters entered her first year in middle school while the other entered her first year in Kindergarten. Whenever your child enters into a new transition you want to be sure to provide the best to build a proper foundation. While I have taught Kindergarten twice before I am not so prideful to say I can do it with my eyes closed. Each of my children is different and I am always seeking to find the best curriculum. I also want something that conforms to my beliefs … Continue reading

Needs In Your Community And Beyond

Sometimes it may seem as we look around our community, we see so many areas of need. We could shrug our shoulders and decide ‘The problems are too big. I can’t do anything, so why bother trying?’ Imagine if God had taken that attitude with the world and the problem of sin! What a dreadful state we would be in. But God sent His Son to pay the price for, and deal with our sins, Isaiah 53:5-12 and John 3:16. Instead of admitting defeat, we could look at the skills, talent sand resources we have and see how they can … Continue reading

Why Pray For Your Community?

In a recent blog I suggested praying for the community where we live. Why should we pray for our communities? Because it is the place where God has put us and we are to be a witness or ambassador there just as Paul was in Corinth, 2 Corinthians 5:20. In Acts 22:15 , though these words were spoken by Ananias to Paul, I believe they ought also apply to us. We need to witness to what we have seen, heard, experienced and know of Jesus. Have you ever thought that you may be in the community where you are because … Continue reading

The Effects on a Community

Firstly, sorry for the silence yesterday. I was too ill to lift my head off the pillow to join you all. In Lyn’s blog she detailed results of a survey on the effects of a happy, healthy marriage not just on the husband, wife and children, but on the community It set me wondering about this passage from 1 Samuel 8. The bible tells us nothing about Samuel’s wife and their marriage. Or about his sons until we come to the passage in 1 Samuel 8 when Samuel was old and appointed his sons judges over Israel, verse 1. Then … Continue reading

For the Last Time, Homeschoolers are Not Strictly Conservative Christian

Maybe this won’t be the last time that I state this, but it must be said. Homeschoolers are not strictly Conservative Christians. We are not blindly motivated to separate and cloister out kids from others in a blind effort to keep our kids innocent, and protect them from the heathens. Sure when homeschooling first became popular, that was the goal of many, but the vast majority of homeschoolers now come from every walk of like imaginable. Sure, at one time, about 15 years ago, most homeschoolers that you encountered were Conservative Christians, and most homeschooling was religion based. But, even … Continue reading
