Seasons of Marriage

Here in the Midwest we are experiencing some of the most beautiful, brilliant colors on the trees. Never have the reds and oranges seemed so deep. You don’t even have to take a ride in the country to experience the wonder. It is in virtually every neighborhood. It got me thinking about the changing seasons and how different each one is. It wasn’t that long ago we had our central air on because it was blazing hot outside. And before you know it, snow will be blanketing the ground. Marriages go through seasonal changes as well. Most seem to start … Continue reading

Changing Roles

I recently finished an excellent book that I highly recommend called “My So-Called Life as a Proverbs 31 Wife” by Sara Horn. If you fit into any one of these categories—Christian woman, writer or military wife—I know you will definitely enjoy it. One of the reasons I really liked this book is because I could relate to the wife. Not in the sense that I am a military wife but in trying to figure out our roles, including who is responsible for what. When my husband and I first got married nearly 21 years ago, I was a pretty headstrong … Continue reading

Books That Celebrate the Changing Seasons

I’m a sucker for children’s books. When it comes to books that you can connect to the seasonal changes around us, I’m even more susceptible. Working in a nature center does that to a person. Yesterday it was sleeting. Again. This year, sleet is definitely the festive harbinger of late fall. Hurray for sleet! As the seasons change around here, I like to read some books about that change to celebrate. Tell Me a Season by Mary McKenna Siddals is my favorite book about seasonal changes. It’s perfect for the two to four year old set. It works for older … Continue reading

Plan Your Fitness Routine for the New Seasons Ahead

To me there is nothing like a brisk morning walk. My favorite time of the day to walk is in the morning when it’s cool outside. Now for many of us we haven’t quite hit those cool mornings yet. There is still some summer left. However I always say that we should plan ahead. Since a new season is upon us, it’s time to think about how you will continue your fitness routine. One of the things that can happen is for those of us who live in the colder states; we let our fitness routine fall to the side. … Continue reading

Changing Seasons

Have you ever had a feeling like something in your life was about to change; like a new chapter or season in your life is about to begin? That’s kind of where I’ve been for while now. In the past, prior to knowledge of a move, promotion or placement of a child in our home, I’ve had this feeling too. Maybe it’s just becoming familiar with the first tastes of a new season; like the crispness in the morning as autumn has approached, or the fragrant air of spring. Since I’m not sure exactly what God’s plans are for my … Continue reading

Organizing the Kids Clothes to Save

When the drawers won’t close in the kids rooms, then I know that the clothes have gotten out of hand. I try hard to keep their clothes organized and to a minimum as much as possible, because in the long run, it really does save money. It is just during this transition time in between seasons, when the mornings are cool and the days are warm that the drawers and closets get disorganized. The changing season and back to school wreck havoc. Between needing new things that fit the size and the weather, and the busyness that comes before settling … Continue reading

Just listen!

We learn through our senses, but the most dominant of these senses is the sense of sight. Learning with other senses can enhance your child’s learning experience. Sometimes, we just need to be encouraged to use them! What do I hear when I listen from my window? I hear the sound of the Pacific Northwest rain. This June has been cold and rainy here so far, and so the little drips and sometimes torrents of rain have been pouring down outside my window. When we go for a walk, I hear the splash of my daughter’s boots in the puddles. … Continue reading

Getting Organized In Her New Apartment

My daughter is getting ready to move into her first apartment. There is much excitement, she can hardly wait. I’m looking forward to a little less cleaning around here but other than that, I’m going to miss her. I’m trying to get her off on the right foot. Cleaning is not her forte to say the least. Hailey is good at organizing but gets so picky about it that she gives up halfway through the project. There are so many neat things to buy for a first apartment but since this apartment is tiny, I’m looking at storage and organization … Continue reading

What is the Season for Working?

The weather has a effect on most people to some degree. You will hear some say that it is a too nice a day to work, too sunny to be stuck in the office, too dreary to get anything done, too rainy to be alert, too cold to think, and more complaints relating the weather to one’s ability to be productive. First, the weather should have no effect on your ability to work unless you suffer from seasonal depression. Most of what we complain about in regards to the weather is a mind game. If the weather plays role in … Continue reading
