Change What You Can

We may not be always able to change our circumstances but we can change the way we view them. We can view life as hard and a drag, or we change our attitude to look for the blessings and positives in each day.

While we were waiting for our move down to the South Coast, we were unable to change our circumstances. But we could change our attitude. Instead of resenting every moment of the delay, we used the time to draw closer to God and try to discover what the Lord wanted to teach us through the experience. It wasn't always easy. Sometimes we were less than gracious, less than teachable. But looking back now, I can see how God changed us through the experience.

Yesterday a phone call from someone from that time, reminded me how much we learned over those months of waiting and how thankful we are to be now where God has brought us to.

Albert Einstein There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle. Or try this one Happiness is inward and not outward: and so it does not depend on what we have but what we are.' Henry Van Dyke .

What are we? The Bible reminds each of us 'I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me,' Colossians 2:20.

Yesterday one of the songs we sang at church echoed this thought. Our lives do not have to stay, 'hopeless, defeated or cast down, for Christ He lives in me.' What a blessing and a comfort that is. But if Christ lives in us then we should be reflecting Him to our family, friends, and neighbors. Are we? Or are we allowing our dissatisfaction with circumstances to take centre stage?

We may not be able to change the circumstances but we can change our attitude to them. Will you choose to?
