5 Bad Habits to Overcome

Bad habits can be hard to break. But if they are standing in the way of you achieving the fit lifestyle you desire to have, it will be worth the hard work of breaking them. While everyone experiences their own challenges, there are some bad habits that are fairly common. See if you recognize yourself in any of these. The first bad habit is setting unrealistic goals. When you raise the bar too high, it can cause you to quickly lose motivation. You can’t run a marathon when you haven’t been off the couch in ages. Set small, achievable goals. … Continue reading

Challenges And Habits

In my last blogs we looked at the idea of being challenged to take on a new area of service or ministry or challenged to continue on after failure. But there is another way we could look at challenges. So often we pray the Lord’s Prayer saying, ‘Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,’ Matthew 6:10. How is God’s will done in heaven? Perfectly – always. Do you and I always do God’s will perfectly on earth? No we don’t. I’m sure each of us have areas in our lives we know are not pleasing to … Continue reading

Behavior Changes and Growth Spurts

In my personal experience as a parent, I learned over the years that my kids tended to act up and develop some behavior challenges right before or in the midst of a growth or development spurt. While I am not a medical profession or a child development expert, I just have my own experience as a parent to draw on and I do believe there is a correlation between changes in a child’s behaviors and developmental growth spurts. This was not something I realized when I was a new parent, it took getting a little experience under my belt and … Continue reading

Habits and Goals

It is nearly the end of the first quarter. This is a great time to check in on your goals and your family’s goals. You may want to incorporate this into your family home evening or your family council meeting on Monday. As you consider your goals and the changes you have or have not made you should look at what is preventing you from achieving your goals. In order for goals to be successful you really need to change your habits. This is the key to changing your behavior. If your family is working on having family prayer and … Continue reading

Saturday Layout Challenge: Bad Habits

It’s Saturday again, and you know what that means? Time for another fun and creative scrapbook challenge. I have been busily making a great list of ideas for upcoming challenges so be sure and check in often. Also, remember that the scrapbook challenges often make great additions to an All About Me album, so start creating and save those layouts so that your family has an album all about you, just as you have so lovingly created an album all about them. I had a few ideas for today’s challenge, but after some careful thought and consideration and a few … Continue reading

General Conference: “Strengthen Home and Family”

In her talk, “Strengthen Home and Family” Sister Mary N Cook speaks specifically to the youth of the church. She does point out that her message does apply to all members however. She challenges the youth to find ways to strengthen their homes. She recognizes that some youth will be the only members in their families. She points out that it is even more important to be a good example and try to bring the family together this is the case. She goes on to remind the youth of a talk that President Hinckley gave earlier this year. He counseled … Continue reading

Change Your Habits in Five Days

In March Winds: What’s Blowing Our Way I described some challenges I’ll be hosting this March and the first of these challenges begins this Monday, March 5th. I wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect and what the challenge is so you can decide to participate or not. Personally, I hope you will participate because I think this will be a fun challenge for everyone. Change Your Habits in Five Days Habits are things we all get into doing regularly either through accident or design. This challenge is asking you to consciously change one habit for … Continue reading

Blessings and Trials

The talks from the last Relief Society session of conference were really amazing. The theme “Encircled in the Arms of His Love” really struck home with me. Each of the sisters who spoke shared a time in her life when she felt that love, and could feel the arms of the Savior around her, helping her. They spoke of the importance of remembering that feeling. It has been a difficult month for me. It is going to be difficult for awhile. And I know that the Lord is there helping me through my experience. I know because I remember Him … Continue reading

Find Some Friends and Have Fun

Children know how to have fun. When my children were toddlers, they liked to run around my legs until they collapsed, climb onto my back for rides, and tunnel through my legs making car or train sounds. They constantly found something to climb on, hide behind, or jump over. The older they got, the more they played: swinging from monkey bars, endless games of tag, skateboarding, bike riding, and bouncing on the trampoline. At times, I was exhausted from trying to keep up. We can learn something from our children. Most children don’t worry about their weight, particularly when they’re … Continue reading
