Never Too Old!

Some people use age as an excuse to opt out of becoming involved and helping others. Our local paper recently ran a story about an 87 year old man, Cyril Brown. Unlike some today, his main focus has never been on earning a living and looking after his own best interests.

It seems everyone these days wants to write a children's book. One of the latest is from Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan's book 'Forever Young' is all about doing good. It seems to me, there is a misconception that the Christian, life is all about doing good.

Any woman who has ever been for a mammogram, knows the feelings it arouses and the waiting on tenterhooks till the letter saying all is clear arrives. Imagine this. You open the letter and read you are being called back for further X rays and tests. Your heart misses a beat or two.

My reservations regarding the 5 finger prayer pattern are it doesn't incorporate two aspects that I consider essential. They are praise and confession. So I'd like to suggest another pattern for prayer - an ACTION prayer.

At school we teach the children prayer is simply talking to God and it is, so why do many of us find it hard? But we do. That's why I think it is always helpful to have some strategies in place to help us.

At school my husband and I taught a lesson about God's command not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Genesis 2:9 The children heard how Adam and Eve disobeyed God and because of that, friendship with God was broken, Genesis 3:1-24.

Supposing someone walks into your church. They are not dressed the way people in your church normally dress. In fact, as you look at them you, can't help yourself from making a snap judgment. They look like a bit of a loser.

Have you ever felt prompted NOT to do a certain thing but went ahead anyway? Or you felt a prompting to do something but didn't? Afterwards you realized you should have listened to that inner voice. A while back I had such an experience.
