Psalms Found in an Ireland Bog

While I was watching the news this morning, I heard a story about an archeological find related to the Word of God. In an Ireland bog, a construction worker noticed a something in the soil while he was digging in the bog with a bulldozer. Upon further investigation the worker discovered it was an ancient book. The ancient book appears to be an ancient copy of Psalms. From what I have read about the finding, I am unclear if it is a copy of all the Psalms we have in our Bible today, or just some of the Psalms.

The book has been described as having a leather vellum cover and is wallet-like in appearance. It has been dated to between 800 and 1000 years old, from the medieval period. The ancient manuscript was found open to a page containing the 83rd Psalm written in Latin. According to Pat Wallace, director of the National Museum of Ireland, "It could take months of study just to identify the safest way to pry open the pages without damaging or destroying them." Wallace has stored the book in refrigeration in order to preserve the fragile document. Many more years of investigation are needed to thoroughly study the book.

Recently I have been writing about different evidences which point to the existence of God. One of the most amazing things to me when considering the existence of God is the existence of the Word of God. It is remarkable to me that the worker noticed something in the soil, and that the document was not destroyed by the bulldozer. Finds such as this recent discovery of some Psalms in Ireland and the Dead Sea Scrolls in Qumran starting in the late 1940s are significant archaeologically, but they are also significant spiritually. These finds serve as a conformation of the ancient Scriptures which are very much still vital to the world today.
