Notebook of blessings

A comment on my last blog and a visit to Courtney’s blog inspired me to think about a notebook of blessings. I hope as you read you will be inspired to create your own list of blessings. I praise God for: The gift of love – that of my husband, family and friends and especially God’s love as revealed to is through Jesus and his death on the cross for my sins. The beauty of creation. We have not long returned from a walk down by what people here refer to as a lake but it is actually St Georges … Continue reading

Mother’s Day is Hard

Mother’s Day is hard. It is hard for those whose family is far away and cannot get to visit. Hard for those who are estranged from their mother. Or for the mother estranged from her children for whatever reason. Hard for those who wanted children and were unable to have them. Hard for those who have a difficult relationship with their mother. Hard for those who’s mother has died or is in the process of dying. My Mom died 28 years ago, yet I still find certain times hard. Mother’s Day is one of them. When my Mom was alive … Continue reading

Becoming the Woman I Want To Be

I have this image of a “perfect” woman in my mind. She is much like the Proverbs 31 woman. I see her as a woman who is able to balance attention to her husband, each child, her home, her community activities, and all while making time for God. I see her handling all these things with great poise, grace and humility. I’ve seen aspects of this “ideal” woman in many whom I admire. If only I could bottle up their different attributes and make them my own… I have a mental list of all the things I would like to … Continue reading

Lessons We Can Learn From Children

As adults with such sophistication we may believe we have a great advantage over our children. After all, we’ve been around longer to learn how this world works. With age comes wisdom right? If this is true, then why does the Bible put such great emphasis on children? “At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying ‘Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, ‘Assuredly I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by … Continue reading

Teaching Children Through Song

Over the years I have found that one of the most effective ways to teach children about the Bible or Biblical concepts is through song. There are many advantages to using songs as a way to help children learn about Biblical ideas. Songs are fun, exciting, and interesting to children. Singing is an engaging activity, both mentally and physically. Children can sing these songs just about anytime from riding to school or doing their chores. Songs also provide an easy way for children to remember Bible stories or Biblical things. Below I have listed just a few songs which can … Continue reading

Five Reasons to Study the Old Testament

Generally, if someone believes in God they will read and study the New Testament. Yet for some reason many people who believe in God do not have the same desire to study the Old Testament. Sadly, I have often heard people say it is not important to study the Old Testament. Even worse, I have heard people say that the Old Testament is just filled with legends and the stories simply are not true. I have even heard of people who believe in God make those types of remarks about the Old Testament. It IS important to study the Old … Continue reading

Bedtime stories. Use the Bible as your child’s bedtime story. Reading the stories of the Bible to your children not only benefits your children, but you, for you are also immersed in the Word of God. Bible Stories to Share with Your Children: Adam and Eve

The story of Adam and Eve, their temptation and the fall of man, is found in the Bible from Genesis 2:15 through Gensis 3:24. The story of Adam and Eve continues on past the end of the third chapter of Genesis; however, I want to focus on the first part of their story. The account of Adam and Eve can easily be taught on different levels depending on the age of your children. Key Lessons 1. God gave a commandment which Adam and Eve were required to follow. There are commandments which must be followed today. Ephesians 6:1 states: “Children, … Continue reading

Creation Crafts

I thought that in conjunction with my blog over the Biblical account of creation I’d share with you some crafting ideas. I must admit that I really don’t have many creative bones in my body (although I do try) so I adapted some of these ideas from things I found while browsing around on the internet. A Creation Book Have your children draw pictures for each of the days of creation on separate pieces of paper. You might even encourage older children to write in the description that corresponds with that particular day of creation. Bind the pages in any … Continue reading

Bible Stories to Share With Your Children: The Creation

As I mentioned in a previous blog, I am going to start writing a weekly series on Bible stories to share with your children. I believe that the Biblical account of creation is a great place to start for a couple of different reasons, most obviously because it shows children the beginning of our existence, but also because it shows that we are unique creation from God. The Biblical account of creation is found in the first two chapters of Genesis. My goal in this blog is not to retell the creation story but to rather give ideas on how … Continue reading
