When and What to Tell your Children about the Devil

After becoming a mom, I was eager to introduce my child to his Savior Jesus Christ. I knew what songs I’d sing to him and what I wanted to teach him about God’s love for us. I didn’t give much thought at that time to how I would tell him about the enemy of his soul he’d need to resist. Children who attend Sunday school regularly will likely learn about Satan in their class. They might hear about him through the story of Adam and Eve where Satan appeared as a serpent or from the story where Jesus was tempted. … Continue reading

Bible Stories: The Wise and Foolish Builders

If you read very many of my blogs you probably know that I teach a children’s Bible class on Sunday mornings. This lesson was one of their absolute favorites! In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus says the following: “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does … Continue reading

Generational Curses

Are they real? Yes they are and it is so important when contemplating sin to understand consequences that can surpass the moment inflicting pain on future generations. We can read about the first generational curse in Genesis upon Adam and Eve’s consumption of the forbidden fruit. Although the curse from that still remains in labor and physical death, by our Lord’s grace and mercy, in accepting His gift of salvation, we can be spared eternal spiritual death (separation from God). We see stories throughout the Bible of curses affecting generations that are perhaps examples that God allowed to be shared … Continue reading

The First Family (2)

In an earlier blog I wrote about the husband and wife (Adam and Eve) of the first family. Now I want to turn my attention to the children of Adam and Eve. The Bible speaks of the children of Adam and Eve in Genesis 4:1 through Genesis 5:4. Three children of Adam and Eve are specifically named, Cain, Abel, and Seth; however, it is very important to note that Genesis 5:4 states: “After he (Adam) begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters.” Adam and Eve had more sons and daughters after … Continue reading

Bible Stories to Share With Your Children: Enoch

If you have ever read straight through the book of Genesis you have noticed there are several genealogies given in the text. Although these genealogies have an importance in scripture, sometimes they are difficult to read through because you are simply reading a list of generations of people with names you may or may not be able to pronounce. However occasionally when reading through these genealogies a small story may be given about one of the people listed. That is the case with the man who is the focus of this blog: Enoch. In Genesis 5:18-24 the Bible tells of … Continue reading

Bible Stories to Share with Your Children: Adam and Eve

The story of Adam and Eve, their temptation and the fall of man, is found in the Bible from Genesis 2:15 through Gensis 3:24. The story of Adam and Eve continues on past the end of the third chapter of Genesis; however, I want to focus on the first part of their story. The account of Adam and Eve can easily be taught on different levels depending on the age of your children. Key Lessons 1. God gave a commandment which Adam and Eve were required to follow. There are commandments which must be followed today. Ephesians 6:1 states: “Children, … Continue reading
