Being Innocent to What is Evil

“…But I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.” (Romans 16:19) NIV The best way for me to share what this scripture means to me is to tell you how I’ve come to explain it to my son. He asked Jesus to come into his heart at 4 ½ years old and is currently 5. I’ve explained, when Jesus lives in us we know He is with us. God sees what we see and hears what we hear. Out of respect for Him, we wouldn’t want God to see things that are … Continue reading

Hugging Gets the Cold Shoulder at School

(Old school hugging outside of class) Damn you, hugs. Evil, awful, good-for-nothing hugs are being banned from a North Carolina middle school–maybe–and it’s got the Internet buzzing. Alcohol, drugs, and baggy pants, those are reasonable items to banish from school property, according to students at Chase Middle School, but putting the kibosh on an innocent little snuggle? The nerve. To say students are not embracing the school’s alleged hugging ban is an understatement. To show the world how much they detest the rumored new rule, a group of Chase students created a Facebook page dedicated to promoting hugs on campus. … Continue reading

Downward Spiral of a Teen Mom

Let’s face it; even if your baby daddy is not an immature douchebag and your parents haven’t kicked you to the curb for having unprotected sex, getting pregnant while you are still a teenager is not going to be problem-free. So what of the teens moms, who don’t have a network of family and friends to rely on for support? Their rainbow/unicorn/puppy dog dreams typically shatter much quicker following the birth of their babies. Just ask Amber Portwood. The Indiana mom got pregnant while she was still in high school, but instead of giving birth, completing the credits needed to … Continue reading

Talking to Your Teen About Sex

Let’s face it…if you don’t talk to your teens about sex, someone else will. It is likely that they will receive misinformation or not the whole story. But a greater worry than that is the assumption your teen would never engage in sex. I have seen enough talk shows and newscasts to realize no teen is completely safe. Talking to your teen about sex is important, even if it is uncomfortable. It may be uncomfortable for both of you but it is a necessary evil. Believe me, they are hearing more than you realize. Sometimes I shudder when my 6th … Continue reading

Villagers Ejected From Future Site of the Most Magical Place on Earth

At the beginning of the month Disney made an announcement I initially decided not to cover on my blog: plans to build a new theme park in the Pudong district of Shanghai, China. The announcement basically consisted of just that, with little additional information, and I wasn’t sure how many of our readers would ever have the chance to visit the park. Now I’ve learned something about the Shanghai Theme Park Project that makes me want to bring it to the attention of our readers. The future site of Disney Shanghai is currently occupied by the villages and fields of … Continue reading

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian – A Great Sequel!

I was among the moviegoers that saw Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian on Memorial Day, its opening weekend. I usually don’t like sequels, but made an exception to see this one since my four year old son had been asking since seeing the “Fire Powa” commercial. Will loved the first one, so I figured he would like this one and I was right. This sequel follows former museum night watchman Larry Daley (Ben Stiller). The reason he is a former night watchman is his invention business has taken off. However, his “friends” at the museum need him. … Continue reading

Do You Want to Know What God Hates?

Do you want to know what God hates? The bible tells us. Here are some things mentioned. God hates: Unjust scales Proverbs 11: 1, 20:23. God doesn’t want to see people cheated. That’s good for us to remember at tax time and in our dealings with others. I think it also applies not just financially but to cheating others in what we give to a relationship. Boasting and those who do iniquity, lies and deceit, violence and bloodshed, Psalm 5:5-6. Divorce, Malachi 2:16. Notice, God does not say he hates the divorced person but divorce. Life long marriage of one … Continue reading

Who’s Your Favorite Movie Villain? Part Four

The list of villains just seems to go on and on, doesn’t it? And being a villain has often paid off dearly for those playing the part. I cannot even count the Oscar nominations and wins of the talented actors and actresses I’ve listed in my movie villain blogs. Continuing the EW list of villains, if you ever have to visit the psych ward a la Britney, you wouldn’t want to look up and see Nurse Ratched waiting for you. Louise Fletcher was the sixth actress in line to play Nurse Ratched, but it is hard to imagine anyone else … Continue reading

Equipping Children for Spiritual Battle

Today many children are learning the devil is nothing more than a make-believe story character. Unfortunately, those who believe this are very mistaken. I believe children need to know truth as is appropriate for their age and maturity. Satan doesn’t wait until our children are older to torment them with his wicked ways. I believe we as parents have an obligation to do spiritual battle for our children through prayer as well as equip them as necessary to stand up during those moments of temptation we aren’t aware of. When I was six years old, I asked my Grandma if … Continue reading

A View of Execution

I turned on the radio a few nights ago in mid-discussion of the sentenced execution of Saddam Husain by hanging that happened December 30th 2006. A question was posed by the radio host: if Saddam’s execution was publicly aired, would you watch it? Thereafter, a man called in stating he was a Christian and did not believe as a Christian he should watch the execution of anyone. This got me thinking: Is there justification in watching the death of an evil person? Though there had been no plans by major media to air Saddam’s death, the question of whether it … Continue reading
